About The Position

Anthropic is hiring a Staff+ Software Engineer for its Platform Intelligence team. The team turns Claude models’ abilities into API features that developers can use, including tool use, built-in tools such as web search and code execution, thinking controls, structured outputs, and memory, files, and skills APIs. It also owns API versioning, production capability evaluations, and the API side of model launches, including safety features and controls. The role leads the design, development, and operation of API capabilities used by developers worldwide. It partners with research to translate emerging model abilities into simple, durable, and safe-to-use interfaces, and coordinates API readiness for model launches across research, safeguards, product, SDKs, documentation, and cloud partners. The engineer will set technical direction for work spanning multiple teams, author design proposals, review API designs, and mentor engineers. Between launches, the role will improve launch speed and safety. The position is hybrid under Anthropic’s current policy: staff are expected to work from an office at least 25% of the time, though some roles may require more. Preference is given to candidates based in New York, Seattle, San Francisco, or the Bay Area. The annual salary range is $405,000–$485,000 USD. Anthropic sponsors visas where possible and makes reasonable efforts to support visa applications. The company describes itself as a public benefit corporation headquartered in San Francisco, focused on creating reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems that are safe and beneficial.
