About The Position

CHEO is seeking a Staff Psychologist for a temporary full-time (0.8) position until April 2027, to provide psychological services to children and youth treated for oncological conditions. This role involves behavioral, social-emotional, cognitive, and psycho-diagnostic assessments, as well as individual and group education and therapy. The Psychologist will be an integral part of an interdisciplinary oncology service, playing a significant role in patient and family education groups, research, program development, and program evaluation.

Requirements

  • Vulnerable Sector Check (Essential)
  • Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from a CPA or APA accredited clinical psychology program (Essential)
  • Registration as a Psychologist in Ontario or eligibility for registration as a Psychologist (Essential)
  • Designated practice as a psychologist in the area of Clinical Psychology with children and adolescents (Essential)
  • Knowledge with regard to the interplay between health, mental health and pediatric traumatic stress (Essential)
  • Experience in health psychology (Essential)
  • Experience in the provision of comprehensive psychological assessments (including cognitive, behavioural and personality measures to a paediatric medical and mental health population (Essential)
  • Experience in providing psychological intervention to children with complex medical and mental health conditions (Essential)
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work collaboratively with other health professionals (Essential)

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual – Fluency in both French and English (Preferred)
  • Supervision experience (Preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive psychological assessment, with a focus on diagnostic formulation and delineating the interplay between health and mental health issues.
  • Offer consultation and treatment services for patients undergoing treatment for cancer – (active treatment or follow up).
  • Liaison with other health care professionals with regard to assessment findings, recommendations, and their implications for the management of the child/youth.
  • Liaise with community services (e.g., schools).
  • Provide supervision/training of pre-doctoral psychology interns and offer learning opportunities to other student professionals in training.
  • Assist and collaborate with program evaluation and development of research projects that reflect the interdisciplinary nature of the clinical services provided by the team.
  • Collaborate with Psychologists to assist with coverage and backup during vacations and exceptionally busy times.
