About The Position

Working with the Manager, Facilities Systems Engineering, this role is responsible for the coordination, planning, design, construction, commissioning, and ongoing maintenance support of assigned Facilities Engineering projects. The position emphasizes engineering excellence, regulatory compliance, and the protection of public safety.

Requirements

  • Licensed Professional Engineer with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO). For out of province trained Engineers (out of province or international), Engineer-in-Training (EIT) status will be accepted under the following conditions: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from a PEO recognized educational institution; no educational deficiencies are noted by the PEO, whereby candidates have no outstanding remedial courses or examinations required to obtain licensure; full licensure can be obtained within 12 months of job offer.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in the design, construction, project management, and maintenance of Building, Mechanical or Life Safety Systems.
  • Valid class “G” Ontario Driver’s license is required.
  • Able to obtain “DA” class AVOP permit within 30 days of appointment to position.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
  • Ability to obtain and retain a Transportation Security Clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong knowledge of translating business requirements into functional and technical specifications, including standards, drawings, and supporting documentation.
  • Knowledge of asset management principles, including Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, and Safety (RAMS), and their application to physical infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of full project lifecycle delivery, including scope definition, planning, cost estimating, scheduling, testing, commissioning, turnover, quality control, and reporting.
  • Knowledge of building systems and life safety technologies (e.g., fire alarm, suppression systems), including applicable codes, regulations, and emergency/evacuation planning.
  • Knowledge of construction methods, maintenance practices, safety procedures, and operational coordination (e.g., central monitoring, inspections, audits).
  • Knowledge of engineering standards, professional practice requirements (design accountability, public safety, ethics), and emerging industry trends to inform design and decision-making.
  • Knowledge of regulatory frameworks and stakeholder environments, including aviation standards (e.g., ICAO, Transport Canada), codes, and external partners.
  • Knowledge of contract principles and technical documentation, including Statements of Work, specifications, and review of consultant/contractor submissions.
  • Strong ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and codes, and translate complex technical information for non-technical audiences.
  • Proficiency with relevant systems and tools (e.g., Microsoft 365, project scheduling software, Maximo, ProjectWise, ERP systems, design platforms) and financial fundamentals (capital vs. operating impacts) to support analysis and decision-making.

Responsibilities

  • Gather, interpret, validate, and prioritize business and stakeholder requirements to support solution alignment and value realization.
  • Develop integrated asset lifecycle and restoration plans, including scope, resources, risks, dependencies, schedules, and financial forecasts.
  • Lead solution development and support project progression through concept, feasibility, approval, and execution in alignment with PMO processes.
  • Ensure designs, specifications, and construction activities comply with applicable codes, standards, and GTAA requirements.
  • Support commissioning and post-construction activities to measure performance, ensure operational readiness, and achieve intended outcomes.
  • Define and document functional and operational requirements through technical drawings, specifications, reports, and cost estimates.
  • Provide technical guidance and support proposal development, including scope of work, solution design, and supporting documentation.
  • Conduct inspections, audits, and technical assessments; identify deficiencies and recommend corrective actions and improvements.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders (including consultants and partners) to resolve issues, align requirements, and advance project delivery.
  • Drive continuous improvement through data analysis, lessons learned, and application of Plan-Do-Check-Act principles while maintaining awareness of industry trends, regulations, and best practices.
