About The Position

Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance (HPHA) is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Operating Room department. This is a temporary job share position located in Stratford, ON & Clinton, ON. HPHA is a multi-site organization committed to proactive change, partnerships, performance, and valuing its people to advance the healthcare system. The role involves providing specialized nursing care in the Operating Room, requiring quick decision-making in emergencies and up-to-date knowledge of OR technology and skills. Applicants who do not meet the minimum qualifications may be considered for a training opportunity.

Requirements

  • Current registered member in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Operating Room certificate from a recognized program.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certificate required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Peri-Operative care.
  • Demonstrated ability to make quick appropriate decisions in an emergency situation.
  • Specialized nursing skills in Endoscopy procedures, equipment & trouble shooting.
  • Specialized nursing skills in Central lines – insertion & maintenance.
  • Specialized nursing skills in Arterial lines – maintenance & withdrawal of blood.
  • Specialized nursing skills in Below the Drip.
  • Specialized nursing skills in Venipuncture.
  • Specialized nursing skills in Fluids and Electrolytes.
  • Specialized nursing skills in Initiation of IVs in a life-threatening emergency.
  • Ability to plan, organize and problem-solve.
  • Ongoing continuous education.
  • Excellent communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Meditech Information System, OR+ documentation and personal computer applications preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide specialized nursing skills in the Operating Room, including Endoscopy procedures, equipment & troubleshooting.
  • Manage central lines – insertion & maintenance.
  • Manage arterial lines – maintenance & withdrawal of blood.
  • Perform Below the Drip procedures.
  • Perform Venipuncture.
  • Manage Fluids and Electrolytes.
  • Initiate IVs in a life-threatening emergency.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of OR technology and skills.
  • Be available to return to the Stratford site within 20 minutes when on standby.
  • Prioritize and function both independently and interdependently with the Interprofessional Care Team.
  • Plan, organize, and problem-solve.
  • Engage in ongoing continuous education.
  • Utilize excellent communication skills.
  • Work with the Meditech Information System, OR+ documentation, and personal computer applications.
