Staff Product Manager

Muon Space•San Jose, CA
•$243,000 - $274,000•Hybrid

About The Position

Muon Space is hiring a Staff Product Manager to own one to two product areas end-to-end. Depending on the candidate’s background and company needs, these areas may include the spacecraft platform, the RF and optical bits-to-ground data path, on-board high-performance compute, or the instrument portfolio. The role owns each area’s roadmap and productization decisions, including architecture, capability tiering, service-level agreements, reuse versus customization, and, where applicable, pricing and packaging. These decisions are intended to shape how Muon scales commercially and operationally. This is a deliberate Staff-level (L6) individual-contributor role reporting to the VP of Product. It requires making consequential commercial and architectural decisions, working as a technical peer with engineering and leadership, and operating across hardware, software, operations, and go-to-market without a team to delegate to. The position is hybrid and requires working on-site in Muon Space’s San Jose, California office three days per week. The position requires access to export-controlled information; applicants must meet one of the eligibility conditions described in the job posting.

Requirements

  • 8–10 years of Product Management experience, with demonstrated success owning complex, technically deep products spanning hardware, software, and data systems.
  • Track record of owning a large product area end-to-end, including its architectural, productization, and commercial decisions.
  • Strong fluency working with platform, infrastructure, and systems engineering leadership.
  • Comfort operating as a Staff-level individual contributor: making consequential decisions, writing concise strategy documents, aligning senior stakeholders, and executing without a team to delegate to.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a related technical field.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree.
  • Familiarity with space systems and LEO constellations, including spacecraft platforms, instruments, ground segment, remote sensing, or satellite data pipelines.
  • Previous experience deploying or scaling a Product function within a space, defense, or deep-tech company.
  • Prior experience in startup or high-growth technology environments.

Responsibilities

  • Own the strategy and multi-quarter roadmap for one to two large Muon product areas.
  • Distinguish reusable platform capabilities from mission- or customer-specific customization and shape architecture choices that support reuse across missions and customers.
  • Sequence the roadmap to support near-term deals while building reusable value for future ones.
  • Define success measures for the product area and hold the organization accountable to them.
  • Own productization decisions and drive the shift from bespoke, project-based commitments toward standardized, tiered offerings.
  • For the spacecraft platform, define platform variants, standard interfaces, and options for mission teams and customers, and govern platform evolution across missions.
  • For bits-to-ground, define end-to-end latency, availability, and throughput tiers; align ground segment, pipeline, and storage investments with commitments; and set constellation downlink prioritization policy.
  • For on-board high-performance compute, define the compute capability roadmap and developer/SDK surface for mission payloads, and determine how processing capabilities are exposed to internal teams and external customers.
  • For instruments, shape portfolio strategy, determine which capabilities are standardized or bespoke, specify and verify performance, and productize new instruments across missions.
  • Conduct customer and user discovery with external customers, internal mission teams, and partners; gather structured feedback and translate it into roadmap decisions and productization experiments.
  • Partner with Growth to analyze won and lost deals, identify product gaps and competitive advantages, and inform product and engineering investment.
  • Track relevant competitive and technology trends and assess where Muon leads, matches, or lags.
  • Partner closely with engineering across software, hardware, and operations.
  • Partner with Growth on deal structure, contract language, and the boundary between standardized packaging and bespoke commercial terms.
  • Support Go-To-Market teams with sales enablement, technical documentation, RFP responses, customer demonstrations, and product positioning materials.
  • Work with Marketing on product messaging, website content, case studies, whitepapers, and thought-leadership content.
  • Collaborate with the VP of Product and broader PM team on cross-area roadmap trade-offs, prioritization, and fundraising-aligned narrative.
