About The Position

DigitalOcean is seeking a Staff Product Designer to own the console experience end to end, from navigation and cross-product patterns to shared surfaces used by customers provisioning, managing, and scaling infrastructure. The designer will work from within a product team while establishing reusable frameworks, patterns, and guidance that help the console function as one coherent product across many product teams. The role combines detailed interaction design with broad information-architecture and systems thinking. The designer will own the design system and its roadmap in partnership with engineering, set and uphold quality standards across the product suite, create reusable patterns, and shape the console’s creative direction. This is a remote role.

Requirements

  • Staff-level product design experience.
  • Proven track record building and scaling a design system across multiple products or teams.
  • Systems-thinking approach that prioritizes reusable patterns and consistency at scale.
  • Strong craft across interaction, visual, and information design, supported by a portfolio demonstrating design quality and measurable UX impact.
  • Experience driving quality and adoption through influence, standards, partnership, and persuasion across teams.
  • Comfort setting direction under ambiguity as the most senior or potentially only designer in the room.
  • Strong, opinionated design point of view and conviction to own a product’s creative direction.
  • Solid collaboration skills with engineers.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on knowledge of front-end constraints and how design systems are implemented in code.
  • Experience running or scaling a design system guild or community of practice across a large engineering organization.
  • Familiarity with cloud infrastructure concepts such as compute, storage, networking, and Kubernetes, or a track record of quickly learning technical domains.
  • Experience designing for novice and expert users within the same product.

Responsibilities

  • Own the end-to-end console design experience, from first login through users’ daily workflows.
  • Own the design system, including its component library, patterns, visual and interaction standards, and roadmap in partnership with engineering.
  • Set the product suite’s craft and quality bar and establish a review process to uphold it.
  • Build reusable patterns that enable product teams to ship well-designed interfaces without dedicated designers.
  • Own shared, high-visibility surfaces such as navigation, onboarding, the app shell, and landing pages.
  • Partner with engineering to ensure designs are implemented as intended.
  • Develop UI engineers’ design skills through a design guild, reviews, and pairing.
  • Make simplicity and strong UX a point of differentiation, and support requests for design investment with evidence of potential impact.
  • Own and articulate the creative vision and point of view for the console experience.

Benefits

  • Reimbursement for relevant conferences, training, and education.
  • Access to LinkedIn Learning courses.
  • Employee Assistance Program.
  • Local employee meetups.
  • Flexible time off policy.
  • Potential bonus based on company and individual performance.
  • Equity compensation for eligible employees, including equity grants upon hire.
  • Option to participate in the Employee Stock Purchase Program.
  • Competitive benefits, which may vary by location.
