Staff Product Designer, Console Experience

DigitalOcean•Austin, TX
•$192,800 - $241,000•Remote

About The Position

DigitalOcean is seeking a Staff Product Designer to own the console experience end to end. The console serves customers ranging from solo developers to enterprise platform teams as they provision, manage, and scale infrastructure. The designer will shape its navigation, cross-product patterns, and overall information architecture so features developed by many product teams feel like one coherent product. The role sits on a product team while also building reusable frameworks, patterns, and guidance for teams across the console. It calls for a designer who can move between detailed interaction work and system-wide design, own the design system and its roadmap in partnership with engineering, set a high bar for product quality, and provide a clear creative vision for the console. This is a remote position.

Requirements

  • Staff-level product design experience and a proven track record of building and scaling a design system across multiple products or teams.
  • Ability to design reusable, consistent systems and patterns at scale rather than focusing on one-off screens.
  • Strong craft across interaction, visual, and information design, supported by a portfolio demonstrating design quality and measurable UX impact.
  • Experience driving quality and adoption through influence, standards, partnership, and persuasion across many teams.
  • Comfort setting direction under ambiguity as the most senior, and potentially only, designer in the room.
  • A strong, opinionated design point of view and the conviction to own a product’s creative direction.

Nice To Haves

  • Solid collaboration with engineers and hands-on knowledge of front-end constraints and how design systems are implemented in code.
  • Experience running or scaling a design system guild or community of practice across a large engineering organization.
  • Familiarity with cloud infrastructure concepts such as compute, storage, networking, and Kubernetes, or a track record of quickly learning technical domains.
  • Experience designing products for both novice and expert users.

Responsibilities

  • Own the end-to-end design of the console experience, from first login through users’ daily workflows.
  • Own the design system as a product, including its component library, patterns, visual and interaction standards, and roadmap developed jointly with engineering.
  • Set the craft and quality bar across the product suite and establish a review process that supports consistent, polished UI.
  • Create reusable, high-leverage patterns that enable product teams to ship well-designed UI without a dedicated designer.
  • Own shared, high-visibility surfaces such as navigation, onboarding, the app shell, and landing pages, and make them reference examples for other teams.
  • Partner with engineering to ensure designs are implemented as intended.
  • Grow UI engineers’ design skills through a design guild, reviews, and pairing.
  • Advocate for investment in design by showing where it can make a measurable difference to simplicity and user experience.
  • Own the console’s creative vision and define an opinionated direction for how the experience should look and feel.

Benefits

  • Reimbursement for relevant conferences, training, and education.
  • Access to LinkedIn Learning courses.
  • Employee Assistance Program.
  • Local Employee Meetups.
  • Flexible time-off policy.
  • Potential bonus based on company and individual performance.
  • Equity compensation for eligible employees, including equity grants upon hire.
  • Option to participate in the Employee Stock Purchase Program.
