About The Position

Numeric is hiring a Product Designer for its Experience Team, which owns the quality, coherence, and UI/UX differentiation of the product. The team works across product design, design systems, code-based prototyping, and front-end implementation to create clear, dense, elegant, and trustworthy product experiences. The role focuses on complex, data-heavy, highly technical product surfaces. The designer will work from early, sometimes ambiguous problem framing through implementation, partnering closely with engineers and product managers, prototyping quickly, using the product directly, reasoning through edge cases, and helping turn workflows into shippable products. The position calls for independent work, proactive feedback-seeking, strong product judgment, craft, and comfort moving among prototypes, product reasoning, interaction design, and implementation details. Numeric describes its work style as fast, direct, and closely connected to engineering. The team prototypes early, uses code and tools such as Claude Code, Linear, and Figma as design artifacts, values reusable patterns and design-system leverage without letting process slow learning, and expects designers to stay close to implementation. The role contributes to Numeric’s financial operating system and its product surface for modern accounting software. The compensation range is $170,000–$200,000.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of product design experience; startup or high-ownership product experience is preferred.
  • Strong visual, interaction, and product craft.
  • Experience designing complex, technical, data-heavy, or workflow-heavy products.
  • Ability to reason through edge cases, states, information density, hierarchy, and product behavior.
  • Ability to work independently with limited ceremony and proactively seek feedback.
  • Experience partnering closely with engineers and product managers through implementation.
  • Comfort prototyping quickly and choosing tools suited to the problem.
  • Experience or strong interest in code-based design workflows using tools such as Claude Code or similar.
  • Ability to communicate a plan visually in low fidelity and create high-fidelity references when needed.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, including the ability to explain the reasoning behind design decisions.
  • Low ego and high agency, with the ability to take ownership of messy or ambiguously scoped problems.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience designing financial, accounting, data, developer, AI, or enterprise workflow products.
  • Experience designing interfaces for tables, records, logs, approvals, review queues, automation, or data transformation.
  • Ability to build lightweight prototypes in React/TypeScript or modify existing front-end code.
  • Experience treating design systems as living code and product systems, not just Figma libraries.
  • Experience at an early-stage company where designers worked with high ownership and low process.

Responsibilities

  • Own product design for complex workflows in Numeric’s financial operating system, from early exploration through implementation.
  • Partner with engineers and product managers to clarify ambiguous product problems and turn them into buildable interaction models.
  • Create prototypes, reference screens, interaction specifications, and implementation notes using the artifacts best suited to move work forward.
  • Build or direct code-based prototypes where useful, including with tools such as Claude Code.
  • Work with engineers during implementation to refine behavior, states, edge cases, information density, polish, and product quality.
  • Identify and resolve rough edges across the product before they become product debt.
  • Contribute to user story-led work, high-fidelity refinements, and alignment between prototypes, production, and final product quality.
  • Help define reusable patterns for review surfaces, object inspectors, inbox tasks, tables, panels, workflows, and AI-enabled product interactions.
  • Work with the design-system lead on component adoption and with engineering on prototype-to-production details.
  • Bring a strong point of view on craft, usability, and product clarity while remaining pragmatic about what needs to ship.
