About The Position

DigitalOcean is seeking a Staff Product Designer to own the end-to-end console experience, including navigation, cross-product patterns, and shared surfaces used by product teams across the company. The designer will work from within a product team while creating reusable frameworks, patterns, and guidance that help the console function as one coherent product. The role spans detailed interaction design and the console’s broader information architecture, and includes ownership of the design system and the creative vision for the console.

Requirements

  • Staff-level product design experience.
  • Proven track record building and scaling a design system across multiple products or teams.
  • Ability to design reusable systems and patterns for consistency at scale.
  • Strong craft across interaction, visual, and information design, with a portfolio demonstrating design quality and measurable UX impact.
  • Experience driving quality and adoption through influence, standards, partnership, and persuasion across teams.
  • Comfort setting direction under ambiguity as the most senior or only designer in the room.
  • A strong point of view on design and the conviction to own a product’s creative direction.
  • Solid collaboration with engineers.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on knowledge of front-end constraints and how design systems are implemented in code.
  • Experience running or scaling a design system guild or community of practice across a large engineering organization.
  • Familiarity with cloud infrastructure concepts such as compute, storage, networking, and Kubernetes, or a record of quickly learning technical domains.
  • Experience designing for novice and expert users within the same product.

Responsibilities

  • Own the end-to-end console design experience, from first login through users’ daily workflows.
  • Own the design system as a product, including its component library, patterns, visual and interaction standards, and roadmap in partnership with engineering.
  • Set and maintain the product suite’s craft and quality bar, including a review process that supports consistent, polished UI.
  • Create reusable patterns that help product teams ship well-designed interfaces without dedicated designers.
  • Own shared, high-visibility surfaces such as navigation, onboarding, the app shell, and landing pages as reference examples for other teams.
  • Partner with engineering to ensure designs are implemented as intended.
  • Develop UI engineers’ design skills through a design guild, reviews, and pairing.
  • Use evidence to advocate for design investment and identify where it can improve simplicity and user experience.
  • Define and own the console’s creative vision and point of view on how the experience should look and feel.

Benefits

  • Reimbursement for relevant conferences, training, and education.
  • Access to LinkedIn Learning courses.
  • Employee Assistance Program.
  • Local Employee Meetups.
  • Flexible time off policy.
  • Potential performance-based bonus.
  • Equity compensation for eligible employees, including equity grants upon hire.
