Staff Product Designer

Assort Health•San Francisco, CA
•$215,000 - $260,000

About The Position

As a Staff Product Designer, you’ll shape the experience and direction of Assort Health’s AI-native products for clinic staff, patients, and internal teams. You’ll connect individual workflows to a coherent product vision, tackling complex problems where design can improve customer outcomes and drive growth. You’ll partner with Engineering, Product, and GTM leadership to identify the right problems, influence priorities, and turn ambiguity into thoughtful, high-quality experiences. This hands-on role includes leading critical initiatives from discovery through launch while building systems, standards, and shared understanding that help others do better work. The role calls for strong product judgment and exceptional craft, with the ability to think beyond individual features and bring clarity to complex decisions. You’ll have significant latitude to shape the products and how design works across the company.

Requirements

  • A track record of shipping complex digital products and leading design initiatives that span teams or product areas; startup experience is strongly preferred.
  • Evidence of shaping product strategy through design by identifying consequential problems, aligning stakeholders, and translating a longer-term vision into practical steps.
  • Experience designing for multiple personas and interconnected workflows, ideally in complex healthcare or AI-driven products.
  • Strong product judgment and a record of delivering measurable customer and business outcomes, such as adoption, conversion, retention, or expansion.
  • A portfolio demonstrating systems thinking and exceptional interaction and visual design, including full workflows, edge cases, and the decisions behind the work.
  • Ability to lead through influence, build alignment, navigate disagreement, and make sound decisions amid ambiguity.
  • Hands-on ability to move between product strategy, detailed execution, and iteration with Engineering.
  • Deep Figma expertise and experience building scalable components, patterns, and design systems.
  • Fluency using AI tools to accelerate exploration, research synthesis, prototyping, and communication, with judgment about where they add value.
  • Comfort using tools such as Figma Make and Cursor to explore working interactions and collaborate across the design-development boundary.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as an early design hire or founding designer at a startup.
  • Experience designing AI interactions involving uncertainty, human oversight, and user trust.
  • Design engineering experience and interest in contributing production UI, reusable components, or design system infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with leadership to define an experience vision, identify opportunities, and influence roadmap decisions across products.
  • Lead complex design initiatives from discovery through launch, balancing user needs, technical constraints, and business priorities.
  • Design experiences that help clinic staff, patients, and internal operators understand, trust, and effectively use AI.
  • Anticipate dependencies, resolve fragmented workflows, and build patterns that scale across personas and touchpoints.
  • Define success with cross-functional partners and use research, product data, and customer feedback to improve adoption, retention, and expansion.
  • Evolve the design system, strengthen collaboration with Engineering, and help teams ship quickly with a consistently high bar for craft.
  • Mentor other designers, provide thoughtful critique, and make design reasoning clear enough to guide decisions beyond directly owned work.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation, including salary and employee stock options.
  • Annual professional development budget and training opportunities.
  • Office setup stipend for an in-office workspace.
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Flexible PTO.
