Staff Engineer, Analog IC Design

Marvell Technology•Santa Clara, CA
•$170,000 - $210,000

About The Position

The Staff Engineer, Analog IC Design will join Marvell’s Central Engineering business group, which provides IP for use across the company’s Automotive, Storage, Security, and Networking businesses. The role is part of a small analog team and focuses on designing high-speed analog-to-digital converters and other integrated-circuit designs and IPs. The engineer will investigate and implement circuits including PLLs, DLLs, ADCs, regulators, amplifiers, and CDRs, and evaluate implementation methodologies to meet area and power targets. The role includes design verification using simulation tools and scripting, direct layout work or guidance to layout engineers, design documentation, and collaboration with digital and SoC teams for integration and requirements verification. The engineer will also test, characterize, and validate designs in the lab, and provide support to customers and field application engineers as needed. The position requires a master’s degree or foreign equivalent in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Science/Engineering, or a related field, plus the specified work, internship, or graduate coursework/research experience. The position may require access to technology or software subject to U.S. export control laws and regulations; applicants must be eligible to access export-controlled information, and some applicants may be subject to an export license review.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or foreign equivalent in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Science/Engineering, or a related field.
  • Work or internship experience, or completed graduate coursework/research, in analog mixed-signal design with experience in electrical transceivers.
  • Experience designing analog mixed-signal circuit blocks, including PLLs, phase interpolators, low-jitter clock distribution, bandgaps, biasing circuits, LDO regulators, amplifiers, comparators, and filters.
  • Experience building Verilog-A and AMS behavioral models.
  • Knowledge of analog mixed-signal concepts such as mismatch mitigation, linearity, stability, and low-power and low-noise techniques.
  • Experience with Tx/Rx equalization techniques and circuits such as de-emphasis, CTLE, and DFE.
  • Experience with high-speed digital circuits, including serializers, deserializers, counters, and dividers.
  • Experience with system-level EMI/EMC modeling and analysis.
  • Experience performing PVT and Monte Carlo simulations to verify functionality, yield, and design robustness.
  • Experience supporting the IC development lifecycle, including system definition, validation, bench evaluation, correlation, characterization, and preparation for high-volume production.
  • Experience bench testing and characterizing ICs using laboratory instruments such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and related measurement equipment.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret characterization data from lab and production testing.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional validation and design teams to bring up, debug, and optimize silicon.

  • Evaluate implementation methodologies to meet performance targets for area and power.
  • Verify designs using simulation tools such as Hspice, Spectre, and Matlab, with scripting for data collection and organization.
  • Perform layout or guide a layout engineer in implementing circuit designs.
  • Document design work and generate design-related documents such as application specifications.
  • Interface with digital and SoC teams to support design integration and verify requirements and functionality.
  • Test, characterize, and validate designs in the lab, independently or with a test engineer.
  • Provide support to customers and FAEs as needed.

Benefits

  • Eligible to participate in bonus and equity plans, including a new-hire equity grant and annual equity refreshers.
  • Competitive compensation and benefits.
  • A collaborative, transparent, and inclusive work environment.
  • Tools and resources to support success, growth, and development.
