About The Position

PayPal’s Enterprise Messaging & Collaboration Engineering team owns platforms used daily across the company, including Slack, Microsoft Teams, Exchange Online, and supporting identity and compliance systems. This Staff-level role owns administration and production operations of PayPal’s Slack Enterprise Grid environment, supporting tens of thousands of employees across regulated businesses. The position covers governance of apps, agents, integrations, and Slack Connect requests; defensible retention and export configurations; service degradation response; platform architecture and standards; and the services and pipelines surrounding Slack. It also sets platform direction, provides technical leadership, and partners with cross-functional teams to support enterprise AI and Slack-to-Teams interoperability.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of enterprise messaging and collaboration engineering experience, including 4+ years on Slack Enterprise Grid in environments with 5,000+ users; experience owning a platform rather than only handling tickets.
  • Strong Slack administration expertise, including retention, eDiscovery export, OAuth scope governance, Slack Connect, and information barriers.
  • Working knowledge of Slackbot, Slack AI, the MCP server, and AI exclusion controls.
  • Practical scripting in Python or PowerShell against Slack APIs.
  • Production cloud experience with Terraform or equivalent, CI/CD, secrets management, and workload identity.
  • Experience with Entra ID, SAML/SSO, SCIM, conditional access, and OAuth 2.0.
  • Sound least-privilege judgment for bots, agents, and service principals, including treating prompt injection as an access-control problem.
  • Production triage experience under pressure and judgment about when to escalate an issue to a vendor case.
  • Experience with formal change control, including blast radius, backout plans, and approvals.
  • Hands-on support for eDiscovery, legal hold, records retention, or audit requests in financial services, healthcare, government, or a similar regulated environment.
  • Ability to produce runbooks and standards that another engineer can execute independently.
  • Relevant experience in network and security infrastructure, cloud and on-premises network integration, Infrastructure as Code, and F5 LTM/ASM operations, as described in the essential responsibilities.
