Staff Auditor II - Rapid Response Division
About The Position
The North Carolina Office of the State Auditor is seeking a Staff Auditor II for its Rapid Response Division. The position assists with investigations and performance audits intended to strengthen accountability and improve the transparency and efficiency of North Carolina government programs. It is designated as Exempt Policy-Making under G.S. 126-5(c)(3) and is an at-will appointment. The role works with a team to plan and complete audits across a range of topics and programs. It involves communicating with auditees, agency management, and legislators; conducting on-site fieldwork and interviews; reviewing records, program data, financial and program documentation, and systems; and documenting audit work, potential findings, and recommendations.
Requirements
- Intermediate or working knowledge of auditing or accounting principles and practices.
- Demonstrated ability to oversee multiple priorities.
- Demonstrated experience communicating effectively both orally and in writing.
- Strong report-writing experience.
- Bachelor’s degree with 12 semester hours in accounting from an appropriately accredited institution and 3 years of experience in auditing/accounting or program evaluation, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Responsibilities
- Work as part of a team to plan and complete audits of diverse topics and programs.
- Speak with auditees, agency management, and legislators to understand programs under audit.
- Conduct on-site fieldwork, gather information, and conduct interviews to identify program risks and processes and controls that mitigate those risks.
- Review and analyze source records, programmatic data, financial and program documentation, and/or systems.
- Document work results, potential findings, and recommendations.
