SRE Monitoring Platform Software Engineer

Bitdeer Technologies Group•San Jose, CA

About The Position

As an entry-level Software Engineer on Bitdeer’s SRE / Monitoring Platform team, you will contribute to the NeoCloud SRE platform, a multi-region system that observes, protects, and operates a GPU rental fleet across self-built and OEM-rented data centers. The SRE Platform team builds the monitoring and automation foundation used by storage, network, GPU, Kubernetes, and L1 operations teams. Working within a bounded context led by a senior engineer, you will take well-scoped components from design through production. Your work will ship through the GitOps and CI/CD release pipeline, follow Plugin Framework conventions, meet declared SLOs, and remain drift-free. This is a build-and-learn role: you will write code and tests and operate what you build with senior-engineer guidance. You will initially participate in on-call as a shadow before taking primary responsibility. Within 12 months, the expectation is that you will deliver components independently in your assigned area and grow toward owning a sub-context. The role offers the opportunity to build components within an established greenfield vision and learn the observability stack—from ingestion through query and storage—at production scale. You will work directly with senior and principal engineers who own the architecture.

Requirements

  • 0–2 years of software engineering experience; new graduates with strong projects or internships are welcome.
  • Solid programming fundamentals in one language: Go (preferred), Python, Java, or Rust.
  • Ability to write clean, tested, readable code and explain design choices.
  • Knowledge of data structures, algorithms, concurrency, basic networking (TCP/HTTP), and operating-system concepts such as processes, threads, and I/O.
  • Ability to reason about correctness and performance.
  • Understanding of distributed-systems concepts such as idempotency, retries, back-pressure, caching, and eventual consistency.
  • Some hands-on exposure to monitoring or observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or Loki; ability to write a basic PromQL query and instrument a service.
  • Familiarity with Linux and the shell, and comfort reading system logs and using standard debugging tools.
  • Kubernetes basics, including Pods, Services, and Deployments, and experience running something on Kubernetes through a project, lab, or internship.
  • Git and CI basics, including branching, pull requests, and use of a CI pipeline such as GitHub Actions or GitLab CI.
  • Habit of writing unit and integration tests.
  • Clear written and verbal English communication; ability to write a good pull request description and ask good questions.
  • Curiosity and a learning mindset, with enthusiasm for learning GPU / AI infrastructure, AIOps, distributed systems, and observability at production scale.

Nice To Haves

  • Internship or project experience in monitoring / observability, telemetry pipelines, or platform / SRE tooling.
  • Exposure to GPU / AI infrastructure such as DCGM, InfiniBand / RoCE, Kubernetes GPU Operator, Slurm, or Ray; interest is valued more than depth.
  • Exposure to AIOps or ML-adjacent tooling, such as anomaly detection or alert correlation.
  • Contributions to open-source observability or cloud-native projects.

Responsibilities

  • Help build collection agents, metrics, logs, traces, and profiles stores, enrichment services, and collection monitoring; write ingestion, query, and storage-path code.
  • Contribute to alert-engine frameworks, alert correlation, and SLO frameworks; implement and tune default alert rules.
  • Contribute to topology services, cluster-health rollups, and OSS-SRE-tool collection plugins for Kubernetes, Slurm, Ray, Volcano, Kueue, and KubeRay.
  • Help build remediation actuators, orchestration and workflow components, inspection probes, and job schedulers.
  • Instrument services with metrics, logs, and traces using OpenTelemetry; build dashboards and write on-call runbooks.
  • Write unit, integration, and contract tests for shipped work.
  • Participate in chaos and soak tests led by senior engineers.
  • Operate the components you build under senior-engineer guidance and participate in on-call, initially as a shadow.
  • Ship components through the GitOps and CI/CD release pipeline, following Plugin Framework conventions and meeting declared SLOs.
