Sr. Solutions Engineer

Advanced Micro Devices, Inc•Santa Clara, CA

About The Position

AMD's Software and Solutions Team is seeking a technical leader to accelerate the integration and adoption of AMD technology across the open software ecosystem. The role defines and delivers production-oriented solutions that connect AMD CPUs, GPUs, DPUs, networking, memory, and software platforms with operating systems, databases, runtimes, APIs, developer frameworks, and cloud-native services. The position bridges AMD architecture and the broader open ecosystem through reference architectures, upstream integrations, reusable software components, validated deployment patterns, and early customer proof-of-concepts. Focus areas include operating-system kernels, runtime and system services, databases and data platforms, API layers, Model Context Protocol integrations, containers and orchestration, observability, security, and performance engineering. It supports AMD + AMD and AMD + NVIDIA environments. AI is one supported workload domain, but the role is fundamentally centered on open systems integration and solution engineering. As a recognized technical authority, the engineer collaborates with internal engineering groups, customers, hyperscalers, ISVs, standards bodies, and open-source communities. The role influences AMD hardware and software roadmaps using implementation evidence, workload analysis, ecosystem gaps, customer requirements, and measurable improvements. It is a hands-on individual-contributor position focused on architecture, integration, implementation, performance engineering, and ecosystem leadership—not people, program, or alliance management.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience delivering systems software, platform integration, solution architecture, or customer engineering for large-scale enterprise, cloud, data-center, or edge environments.
  • Deep expertise in heterogeneous computing across CPUs, GPUs, DPUs, networking, storage, memory subsystems, virtualization, and cloud infrastructure.
  • Strong knowledge of Linux kernel architecture, drivers, system calls, memory management, I/O, networking stacks, security mechanisms, performance tooling, and upstream development practices.
  • Hands-on experience with runtime services, compilers, language runtimes, system libraries, containers, Kubernetes, distributed schedulers, observability, CI/CD, and software supply chains.
  • Strong database and data-platform expertise spanning relational, NoSQL, analytical, vector, graph, caching, messaging, and distributed storage technologies, including performance and scale-out optimization.
  • Experience designing and integrating REST, gRPC, event-driven, and systems-level APIs, with attention to compatibility, security, observability, versioning, and developer experience.
  • Working knowledge of Model Context Protocol (MCP), including server, client, tool, resource, authentication, and enterprise integration patterns.
  • Strong programming skills in C, C++, Python, Go, Rust, or comparable systems languages, with comfort in performance-critical paths, profiling, debugging, and production-quality open-source development.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership with customers, hyperscalers, OEMs, ISVs, standards groups, and open-source communities.
  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline; equivalent advanced industry experience may be considered.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with ROCm™, AMD Zen Software Studio, AMD Enterprise AI, or comparable accelerator, compiler, runtime, and developer-tool ecosystems.
  • Practical familiarity with AI infrastructure, model serving, retrieval-augmented applications, vector databases, and inference performance.
  • Shipped solutions, upstream contributions, patents, publications, or conference presentations.

Responsibilities

  • Define and execute AMD's solution engineering strategy for integrating AMD hardware and software into open-source, commercial, enterprise, cloud, and edge ecosystems; create reference architectures, reusable components, integration guides, validated configurations, and customer proof-of-concepts.
  • Drive enablement and upstream collaboration across Linux kernels, device drivers, firmware interfaces, system libraries, package ecosystems, container runtimes, Kubernetes, schedulers, service meshes, and observability platforms.
  • Optimize runtime services, including language runtimes, compilers, libraries, inference and data-processing frameworks, communication stacks, and background system services for AMD architectures.
  • Integrate and optimize relational, NoSQL, analytical, vector, graph, and distributed database platforms on AMD systems, addressing query execution, concurrency, memory hierarchy, storage I/O, networking, resiliency, and scale-out performance.
  • Design stable, secure, high-performance APIs and SDK integration patterns that expose AMD platform capabilities and improve application portability and developer adoption.
  • Develop MCP servers, connectors, and reference patterns where MCP provides a practical interface among developer tools, enterprise data, platform services, and selected AI-assisted workflows.
  • Support AMD + AMD and AMD + NVIDIA deployment models, improving interoperability, workload portability, operational consistency, and customer choice.
  • Use profiling, benchmarking, tracing, and systems analysis to improve latency, throughput, scalability, availability, energy efficiency, total cost of ownership, and quality of service.
  • Build security into solution architectures through confidential computing, trusted execution, attestation, identity, secure boot, software supply-chain controls, cryptography, data protection, governance, and auditability.
  • Enable practical AI workloads where relevant, including model serving, retrieval, vector search, data pipelines, and developer productivity.
  • Partner with strategic customers, hyperscalers, OEMs, ISVs, database and platform vendors, and open-source maintainers to resolve integration barriers and validate production readiness.
  • Translate implementation findings and ecosystem requirements into actionable feedback for AMD silicon, firmware, compiler, operating-system, runtime, library, and product roadmaps.
  • Represent AMD through technical publications, conferences, standards bodies, upstream contributions, architecture reviews, and executive customer engagements.
  • Mentor senior engineers and architects in systems integration, open-source engagement, performance engineering, and production solution design.
