About The Position

Raytheon is seeking a Sr. Principal Low Observable Materials Engineer to support stealth technology work across product lines and new business. The role covers development, production, and maintenance of Low Observable (LO) weapon systems, including development of next-generation materials and integration of advanced signature control techniques into defense systems. The engineer will develop, characterize, and integrate materials and processes; predict and measure material performance for developmental and production systems; perform measurements of constitutive and RF attenuation properties; and use Computational Electromagnetic Codes (CEM) tools to predict material performance. The role works with integrated product teams to incorporate signature control techniques into deliverable products and assess system performance. Responsibilities also include engineering documentation, customer and supplier interface, program reviews, project management, and mentoring early-career engineers. The position requires strong ownership of tasks and the ability to function as Materials Lead on Integrated Product Teams. This is an onsite position in Tucson, Arizona. An active and transferable U.S. government-issued Secret clearance is required before the start date, and U.S. citizenship is required. An active existing clearance is required on day one.

Requirements

  • Typically, a STEM degree and at least 10 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree in a related field and at least 7 years of experience.
  • Experience in Low Observables or radar materials.
  • Experience in at least one of the following: material characterization; performance testing, prediction, or design; material down-select; or integration onto an air vehicle.
  • Experience collaborating with customers and suppliers.
  • Active and transferable U.S. government-issued Secret security clearance before the start date; an active existing clearance is required on day one.
  • U.S. citizenship, as required for security clearance eligibility.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM).
  • Experience with high-temperature LO materials characterization, testing, and integration.
  • Experience with intrinsic property analytical techniques for electromagnetic material characterization.
  • Competence using thermal analysis techniques, including DMA, TMA, TGA, and DSC.
  • Agile communication and an interaction style that fosters collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, suppliers, and customers.
  • Skill in planning, prioritizing, and executing projects or programs to successful completion.
  • Proposal writing and Basis of Estimate (BOE) development experience.
  • CAD software proficiency and technical programming experience, such as Python, C++, or MATLAB.
  • Experience with infrared signature analysis and control.
  • Current active U.S. Government in-scope DoD Top Secret security clearance and ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access (SAP).

Responsibilities

  • Develop materials and processes, characterize materials, and integrate them at the system level in support of Raytheon product lines and new business.
  • Predict and measure material performance for developmental and production systems.
  • Measure constitutive and RF attenuation properties and generate predicted material performance using Computational Electromagnetic Codes (CEM) tools.
  • Work with integrated product teams to incorporate advanced signature control techniques into deliverable products and help assess system performance.
  • Develop material formulations.
  • Develop fabrication processes.
  • Support composites operations.
  • Test and characterize materials for RF, mechanical, and physical properties.
  • Prepare engineering documentation.
  • Interface with customers and suppliers.
  • Participate in and lead program reviews.
