Low Observable Materials Engineer

RTX•Tucson, AZ
•$107,500 - $204,500•Onsite

About The Position

Raytheon is seeking a Low Observable Materials Engineer to support material and process development, characterization, and system-level integration across Raytheon product lines and new business. The role involves work on low observable weapon systems, including developing next-generation materials and integrating advanced signature control techniques into defense products. The engineer will predict and measure material performance for developmental and production systems, perform constitutive and RF attenuation measurements, and generate predicted material performance using Computational Electromagnetic Codes (CEM) tools. The position works with integrated product teams to incorporate signature control techniques into deliverable products and assess system performance. The role is onsite in Tucson, Arizona, and requires an active, transferable U.S. government security clearance before the start date; U.S. citizenship is required.

Requirements

  • A STEM degree and at least 8 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree in a related field and at least 5 years of experience.
  • Experience in low observables or radar materials.
  • Experience in material characterization, performance testing or prediction, design, material down-selection, or integration onto an air vehicle.
  • Experience collaborating with customers and suppliers.
  • Active and transferable U.S. government-issued security clearance required prior to start; current Secret clearance is specified, and an active existing clearance is required on day one.
  • U.S. citizenship, because only U.S. citizens are eligible for the required security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in a STEM field.
  • Experience with high-temperature low-observable materials characterization, testing, and integration.
  • Experience with intrinsic-property analytical techniques for electromagnetic material characterization.
  • Competence using thermal analysis techniques, including DMA, TMA, TGA, and DSC.
  • Effective communication and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, suppliers, and customers.
  • Skills in planning, prioritizing, and executing projects or programs to successful completion.
  • Proposal writing and Basis of Estimate (BOE) development experience.
  • CAD software proficiency and technical programming experience, such as Python, C++, or MATLAB.
  • Experience with infrared signature analysis and control.
  • Current active U.S. Government in-scope DoD Top Secret clearance and ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access (SAP).

Responsibilities

  • Develop and formulate materials.
  • Develop fabrication processes.
  • Provide composites operations support.
  • Perform material testing and characterization, including RF, mechanical, and physical testing.
  • Conduct material measurements and performance predictions for developmental and production systems.
  • Use Computational Electromagnetic Codes (CEM) tools to predict material performance.
  • Work with integrated product teams to incorporate advanced signature control techniques into products and assess system performance.
  • Prepare engineering documentation.
  • Interface with customers and suppliers.
  • Participate in and lead program reviews.
  • Manage projects.
  • Mentor early-career engineers.
  • Own assigned tasks and function as the Materials Lead on Integrated Product Teams.
