About The Position

Sunbit is hiring a Sr. Manager, Compliance Monitoring & Automation to build and own its compliance monitoring and controls function. The role owns the function’s strategy, platform, methodology, team, and results, with the goal of determining whether critical lending processes, credit policies, merchant controls, and product workflows execute correctly across borrowers and merchants. The role will design an automated monitoring platform that tests full transaction populations wherever feasible, replacing sample-based review as the standard approach. It will define monitoring rules, standards, thresholds, and dashboards; work with Product and Engineering to build and launch monitoring capabilities; and ensure issues are detected, assessed, escalated, and remediated before they lead to customer harm or regulatory findings. The position sits in Data and partners closely with Compliance, Legal, Credit Policy, Product, Engineering, and Operations. It covers point-of-sale financing, Sunbit Credit Card, and CoBrand card products. The role reports to the Head of Data, although the posting also describes reporting to the VP of Data.

Requirements

  • Experience in compliance monitoring and testing, controls automation, or compliance/risk analytics within consumer lending or fintech.
  • Has led the design and production launch of automated compliance monitoring that tests full transaction populations rather than samples.
  • Leadership experience, ideally leading analysts or technical staff who built monitoring, testing, or controls tooling.
  • Hands-on SQL skills, including the ability to write and review logic behind automated compliance tests.
  • Track record of partnering with Product and Engineering to scope, build, and launch monitoring or controls capabilities.
  • Understanding of how credit decisioning, merchant and partner flows, and product changes operate at a fintech, and ability to turn regulatory requirements into testable rules in those systems.
  • Working knowledge of consumer lending regulations applicable to digital or point-of-sale lending, including TILA/Reg Z, Regulation B/ECOA, UDAAP, and FCRA.
  • Ability to identify systemic risk patterns in large datasets and turn findings into remediation with measurable impact.
  • Experience supporting state regulatory examinations and capital markets audits, including interpreting scope and assembling data and evidence.
  • Strong cross-functional influencing skills in a matrixed organization.

Nice To Haves

  • Python for data analysis and automated monitoring.
  • Experience building a data-driven risk monitoring or control platform from the ground up, including automated rule logic, alert thresholds, defect taxonomies, and remediation tracking workflows.
  • Familiarity with credit decisioning systems, including adverse action accuracy monitoring, fair lending analytics, and credit bureau reporting compliance under FCRA and CDIA standards.
  • Experience with POS lending, BNPL, point-of-care financing, merchant-based consumer lending, or credit card products, and the compliance dynamics of those distribution models.
  • Experience supporting OCC, CFPB, FTC, or state regulatory examinations in a consumer lending or fintech environment.
  • Experience building a formal audit response validation process, including pre-submission accuracy checks, sign-off workflows, and documentation standards.

Responsibilities

  • Build and own the compliance monitoring platform, including automated checks, rule logic, alert thresholds, and operational dashboards.
  • Implement full-population monitoring, wherever feasible, across credit underwriting policy execution, merchant agreement compliance, and critical business process controls.
  • Translate requirements under TILA/Reg Z, Regulation B/ECOA, UDAAP, FCRA, and applicable state laws into automated tests covering credit decisions, pricing, adverse action, origination outputs, servicing, collections, and customer communications.
  • Build controls to detect violations of merchant-facing terms, behavioral anomalies, and process deviations across Sunbit’s partner network.
  • Distinguish isolated defects from systemic failures, identify patterns and root causes, quantify consumer and regulatory exposure, and drive escalation and prioritization.
  • Own remediation from initial detection through verified close-out, partnering across Sunbit and maintaining a full audit trail.
  • Define and track KPIs and KRIs, including monitoring coverage, detection rates, escape rates, remediation cycle times, and control effectiveness.
  • Report monitoring results to senior leadership, the Risk Committee, and regulatory examiners.
  • Partner with Product and Engineering to scope, prioritize, and develop monitoring capabilities; write requirements and rule logic; and own capabilities through launch and ongoing operation.
  • Own data and evidence for state regulatory examinations, internal audits, and capital markets audits.
  • Maintain exam-ready documentation and run pre-submission validation to ensure responses are accurate, complete, and traceable.
  • Drive outcomes in a matrixed environment through partnership and credibility rather than direct authority.
