About The Position

QB Energy is seeking a technically strong and adaptable Senior Geologist to support and lead subsurface characterization, development planning, and drilling activities across our Piceance Basin assets. This is a high-impact, high-visibility role within a lean, agile team where work is accomplished from concept to execution with minimal direct oversight. The ideal candidate brings a proven track record in subsurface characterization across multiple technical platforms, paired with a collaborative mindset, operational discipline, and a genuine curiosity for continuous learning.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Geology required.
  • 10+ years of experience in oil and gas exploration and development.
  • Demonstrated history of identifying commercial and economic quantities of oil or gas reserves through geological work.
  • Experience co-developing subsurface characterization workflows across a range of technical platforms.
  • Proficiency in PETRA, Kingdom, and/or Petrel; ability to quickly learn new geoscience software.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; comfortable presenting to technical and executive audiences.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in multi-disciplinary team environments.
  • Self-directed, organized, and capable of managing concurrent projects under tight timelines.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret well logs, core and cuttings data, pressure and production behavior, and geologic maps to evaluate reservoir quality, continuity, and development risk.
  • Develop integrated geologic products, maps, and visualizations that answer critical development and commercial questions.
  • Partner directly with Operations and Reservoir Engineers to integrate geologic interpretation into drilling execution, development planning, and performance evaluation.
  • Provide geologic input before, during, and after drilling activities to support real-time decision-making.
  • Prepare clear, technically defensible maps, cross sections, risk assessments, and summaries to support executive review, capital planning, and development decisions.
  • Present new workflows, technical assessments, and software applications to advance subsurface understanding across the organization.
  • Plan, permit, and execute the drilling program and data collection efforts — defining geologic objectives, well targets, and required subsurface data.
  • Coordinate with internal teams and regulatory stakeholders to support operated drilling activities and post-well evaluation.
  • Manage timelines, contracts, and resources for geologic studies, drilling support, and technical data acquisition.
  • Ensure work is delivered on schedule, within scope, and integrated into asset development workflows.
  • Lead geoscience operational planning and execution in coordination with Operations and Reservoir Engineering.
  • Supervise and mentor geoscience staff and contractors — defining scope, priorities, and deliverables aligned with asset objectives.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on the oil and gas potential of the operating area, driving continuous learning and best practices.
