About The Position

The Senior Accountant – Inventory, Costing, and Revenue is primarily responsible for the accurate accounting, analysis, and reporting of inventory, including inventory concentration, valuation, and related cost of goods sold (COGS). This role is centered on maintaining strong inventory controls and ensuring compliance with applicable accounting standards and internal control requirements, including Sarbanes Oxley (SOX). The Senior Accountant plays a key role in supporting the finance team by safeguarding the integrity of cost data, ensuring timely and accurate revenue recognition, and contributing to both internal and external audit processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (preferred), Finance, or related field. CPA a plus.
  • 3+ years of accounting experience as a cost accountant or similar role, ideally in a product-based or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, inventory valuation, cost accounting, and revenue recognition.
  • Advanced Excel skills; comfortable with data analysis and pivot tables.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication/presentation skills and cross-functional collaboration abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor, record and reconcile inventory transactions in ERP systems.
  • Perform monthly inventory sub-ledger to general ledger reconciliations.
  • Monitor, analyze and investigate RNI, PPV, inventory variances, shrinkage, labor and obsolescence.
  • Review and ensure inventory is properly valued under standard or weighted average costing.
  • Assist in the review of inventory reserves and shrink.
  • Assist with special projects assigned and additional duties as assigned.
  • Ensure revenue recognition is recognized in accordance with ASC 606.
  • Review and reconcile sales transactions, discounts, rebates, services fees, credits, returns.
  • Track and reconcile contract liabilities.
  • Work closely with sales and billing teams to validate accuracy and timing of revenue (accruals and reversals based on shipping terms).
  • Analyze gross margin trends and provide variance explanations.
  • Ensure compliance with internal control requirements.
  • Document and maintain key controls over inventory, costing, and revenue cycles.
  • Support SOX testing by internal and external auditors.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to strengthen internal controls.
  • Prepare audit-ready documentation and respond to audit inquiries.
  • Perform monthly close activities including journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations.
  • Assist in month-end, quarterly and year-end close processes.
  • Generate financial reports related to inventory, costs, and revenue.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., F,P&A, Operations, Procurement, Sales, IT) for data validation and analysis.
  • Support internal and external audits related to inventory, costing and revenue. This will include but is not limited to supporting schedules and variance analysis.
