The Senior Accountant will oversee and manage the full-cycle accounting operations of the organization, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timeliness across all financial functions. This role is responsible for financial reporting, general ledger management, month-end and year-end close processes, and supporting leadership with financial insights to drive business decisions. The ideal candidate will also provide oversight of invoicing, accounts payable/receivable, and ensure all accounting processes align with company policies and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of general financial accounting and cost accounting principles.
  • Advanced proficiency in accounting software (QuickBooks preferred).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments.
  • Thorough understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field required.
  • Minimum of five (5) to seven (7) years of progressive accounting experience required.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in staffing, payroll-heavy, or service-based environments preferred.
  • CPA or advanced certification is a plus (not required).

Responsibilities

  • Manages and maintains the general ledger, ensuring accuracy and completeness of all financial transactions.
  • Leads month-end and year-end close processes, including preparation of financial statements.
  • Prepares and analyzes balance sheets, income statements, and profit and loss reports.
  • Oversees accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, ensuring timely processing and reconciliation.
  • Reviews and approves journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reports.
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local financial, payroll, wage, and hour laws.
  • Monitors and improves internal controls and accounting procedures.
  • Coordinates with external auditors and assists with audits and tax filings.
  • Oversees invoicing processes to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with contracts.
  • Performs account reconciliations, including bank and credit card statements.
  • Analyzes financial data and provides recommendations to improve financial performance.
  • Assists leadership with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning.
  • Utilizes accounting systems such as QuickBooks and recommends system improvements as needed.
  • Researches and resolves discrepancies in financial records and transactions.
  • Prepares reports and presentations for senior leadership as requested.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Oversees and supports accounting staff, including clerks and junior accountants.
  • Participates in hiring, training, and development of department team members.
  • Assigns work, monitors performance, and ensures deadlines are met.
  • Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations.
