About The Position

Rivian and Volkswagen Group Technologies is a joint venture focused on automotive software, including operating systems, zonal controllers, cloud services, and connectivity solutions. The Sr. Embedded Software Engineer will design and build complex systems across multiple domains to introduce vehicle access features, improve functionality, and enhance user interaction and performance. The role will shape hardware and software systems architecture for future vehicle generations and take ideas from concept and design through execution, deployment, and production hardening. The engineer will collaborate with software teams, including Charging, Body Controls, Infotainment, and VUX, as well as EE and hardware teams, on vehicle access and other cross-functional initiatives.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • At least 2 years of experience in an occupation such as firmware engineer, software engineer, or a related role.
  • Experience programming embedded firmware in C and C++ for Real-Time Operating Systems and Embedded Linux systems with strict memory and power requirements.
  • Experience with ARM Cortex-M class microcontrollers and multithreaded or multicore systems.
  • Experience debugging hardware-software interactions using laboratory instruments such as oscilloscopes and logic analyzers.
  • Experience with board and sensor hardware bring-up, firmware integration, and power profiling or optimization for product prototypes and production-level hardware.
  • Experience with I2C, SPI, UART, and Ethernet communication interfaces for sensor and peripheral integration.
  • Experience in wireless connectivity environments using Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and Wi-Fi for data synchronization.
  • Experience designing and converting sensor-fusion algorithms and machine-learning models from Python to performant C for real-time on-device execution.
  • Experience building platform tooling and Python scripts for testing, simulation, algorithm validation, factory builds, and mass-manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build complex, cross-domain systems for vehicle access and improved user interaction, functionality, and performance.
  • Shape hardware and software systems architecture for upcoming vehicle generations.
  • Take ideas from concept and design through execution, deployment, and hardening in a production environment.
  • Collaborate with Charging, Body Controls, Infotainment, VUX, EE, and hardware teams on vehicle access and other cross-functional initiatives.
  • Develop embedded firmware in C and C++ for real-time operating systems and Embedded Linux under strict memory and power constraints.
