About The Position

The Sr Director of Global Monitoring & Site Engagement (GMASE) Portfolio Execution for RIRU is the single accountable leader for therapeutic-area execution within GMASE. The role translates R&D and therapeutic strategy into predictable, high-quality clinical delivery at scale, owning how GMASE plans, deploys, and optimizes resources, site engagement, monitoring approaches, and risk management across the therapeutic-area portfolio. It is accountable for execution, not for setting GSK therapeutic strategy or scientific direction. Working within the DevOps model, the role partners with Disease Area Leaders (DALs), therapeutic-area leadership, and DevOps counterparts to turn strategic intent into measurable improvements in velocity, quality, predictability, expertise, and productivity. It leads Global Program Leads (GPLs) and coordinates with Planning & Strategic Feasibility, GCSD, DS&M, Clinical Science, Regulatory, and external CRO partners to put the DevOps operating model into practice and support continuous, AI-enabled evidence generation. As a member of the GMASE Leadership Team, the role chairs therapeutic-area portfolio governance forums and provides portfolio-level insight and recommendations. The position requires at least 10 years of pharmaceutical R&D or related industry experience and extensive clinical-operations leadership experience in the relevant therapeutic area.

  • Strong global stakeholder-management experience across GCSD, DS&M, Clinical Science, Regulatory, and country organizations.

Responsibilities

  • Own GMASE therapeutic-area execution across programs, studies, countries, and partners, aligned with DevOps principles and continuous, AI-enabled evidence generation.
  • Provide GMASE execution and delivery-feasibility input to Disease Area Strategy Plans and represent GMASE in therapeutic-area execution discussions, trade-offs, and delivery commitments with Disease Area Leaders and other stakeholders.
  • Align GMASE therapeutic-area execution with Planning & Strategic Feasibility, translating portfolio priorities, commercial positioning, feasibility insights, and delivery strategies into executable, scalable plans.
  • Oversee therapeutic-area portfolio performance by setting expectations, reviewing execution signals and evidence-assurance data, identifying systemic risks and constraints, and driving resolution through escalation and cross-functional decision-making.
  • Provide senior leadership and talent stewardship for Global Program Leads, including setting execution standards, strengthening decision quality, building leadership capability, and holding leaders accountable for performance; the role may include direct line management of GPLs.
  • Define and oversee therapeutic-area site engagement and relationship strategies, including site tiering aligned with enterprise priorities, to focus effort where it most improves velocity, quality, and predictability.
  • Own execution governance for outsourced delivery in the therapeutic area, set expectations with CRO partners, oversee performance, and resolve delivery issues and escalations.
  • Establish effective cross-functional execution governance, connecting GPLs and study teams with decision-makers across GCSD, DS&M, Clinical Science, Regulatory, and other partners to remove systemic barriers and prevent fragmented delivery.
  • As a GMASE Leadership Team member, chair therapeutic-area portfolio governance forums, including monthly reviews with Country Heads and functional partners, to drive performance transparency, resource alignment, and execution readiness; contribute therapeutic-area insight and recommendations to the Leadership Team.
  • Maximize use of AI-enabled tools and workflows across therapeutic-area execution and monitoring to accelerate trial timelines, reduce costs and manual tasks, and continuously optimize resource deployment and monitoring approaches based on utilization and delivery needs.
