About The Position

The Sportsbook Writer fosters a fun environment and provides welcoming, professional service to guests and coworkers. The role processes race and sports wagers by writing, verifying, and paying tickets according to established guidelines. It also involves maintaining cash banks and transaction records, explaining wagering rules and odds, keeping teller stations stocked and clean, and complying with regulatory requirements, including currency transaction, Title 31, anti-money-laundering, and SARC requirements. The position supports company service standards, reports guest concerns and suspicious activity to leadership, maintains knowledge of property information, and follows company policies and procedures. Other job-related duties may be assigned, and some duties may fall outside normal job duties.

Requirements

• Outgoing, energetic, and enthusiastic attitude; enjoys hosting others.
• Comfortable initiating conversations and creating a fun environment for guests.
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• One month of related experience in racing or gaming, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Cash-handling experience required.
• Working knowledge of wagering and sports operations.
• Must be able to obtain a Massachusetts Gaming License.
• Ability to maintain a professional, neat, and well-groomed appearance in accordance with department and company standards.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; compute rates, ratios, and percentages; and draw and interpret bar graphs.
• Ability to work in a high-volume environment.
• Ability to present information effectively and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the public.
• Ability to interact with guests, staff, and colleagues and resolve problems and conflicts diplomatically and tactfully.
• Physical mobility, with reasonable accommodations, including pushing, pulling, carrying, and lifting up to 25 pounds, and pushing, pulling, reaching, bending, twisting, stooping, stacking, crouching, kneeling, and balancing in varying work areas, including confined spaces.

Responsibilities

• Foster a fun environment and act as a gracious host to guests and coworkers.
• Promote a positive influence in the community and participate in company-sponsored events.
• Keep a daily balance sheet recording the amount and number of transactions.
• Write, verify, and pay tickets for race and sports wagers in accordance with established guidelines.
• Maintain an accurate cash bank for the assigned shift, accept payments, and make correct change.
• Stock Race & Sports Book Teller stations with necessary supplies and keep stations neat and clean.
• Pay winning tickets accurately according to established guidelines.
• Maintain and reconcile the bank for the assigned shift according to variance policy.
• Explain wagering rules, betting lines, odds, and procedures to guests.
• Promote and demonstrate superior customer service in accordance with department and company standards and programs.
• Comply with currency transaction requirements, Title 31, anti-money-laundering requirements, and Suspicious Activity Reporting for Casinos (SARC) requirements.
• Notify leadership about escalated or prevalent guest issues and concerns, and apparent suspicious activity.
• Maintain knowledge of property information.
• Ensure regulatory compliance within the area of responsibility and report potential issues to management.
• Maintain strict confidentiality in departmental and company matters.
• Adhere to company policies and procedures and perform other job-related duties as requested.
