About The Position

The Spirits Specialist leads the spirits category and supports the General Manager in providing an innovative, high-quality spirits selection at competitive prices. The role supervises and develops the Spirits Associates team, manages inventory, works with vendors, and helps ensure an excellent customer experience. The position provides prompt, friendly customer service; oversees and assigns work to evening and part-time crew members; trains new employees; stocks and maintains merchandise; monitors inventory and sales; works with vendors; and keeps displays and the department clean and organized. The specialist also handles customer issues, unloads trucks, may assume management duties when the General Manager is absent, and assists elsewhere in the store as needed. This is a fast-paced retail store role requiring the employee to be on their feet throughout the shift. The environment includes continuous exposure to noise, temperature extremes, and dampness; frequent exposure to equipment movement hazards and cleaning chemicals or solvents; and occasional potential exposure to electrical hazards. Safety training is provided. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent experience.
Ability to follow written, verbal, or diagrammatic instructions with attention to detail.
Ability to perform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
Ability to file, post, and organize materials; accurately copy data between records; and gather basic information through interviews.
Ability to guide and direct team members clearly and provide basic direction with confidence.
Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced retail environment.
Ability to frequently stand and walk throughout a shift.
Ability to perform repetitive standing, walking, reaching, and bending associated with order fulfillment, POS transactions, and cleaning and sanitation duties.

Nice To Haves

Six months or less of related work experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

Provide prompt, friendly customer service and help make each customer visit a positive experience.
Supervise and assign work to the evening and part-time crew, and train new employees.
Stock, rotate, and face products; review out-of-stocks, advertised items, and back stock.
Order merchandise as directed by the department head and control inventory.
Monitor sales and suggest sales ideas to the General Manager.
Meet with vendors to obtain point-of-purchase materials and other sales-enhancing items.
Price display items, review price tags, and update signage as needed.
Handle and resolve customer issues professionally.
Unload trucks and ensure products are stocked in the appropriate areas.
Clean display cases and monitor maintenance of equipment and floors.
Assume management duties in the absence of the General Manager.
Instruct, assign, and review the work of Cashiers and Spirits Associates, maintaining standards and coordinating activities.
Follow proper sanitation procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area.
Assist in other areas of the store and take on special projects as assigned.
Adhere to Hy-Vee policies and store guidelines.
Report to work as scheduled and on time.
