About The Position

The Spirit Program Coordinator provides leadership and administrative coordination for the University's spirit programs, working collaboratively with coaches, Athletics staff, and campus partners to coordinate planning, scheduling, budgeting, purchasing, and the day-to-day operations of the University's spirit program. Working collaboratively with Athletics, Enrollment Management, Recreation, Student Affairs, Admissions, Marketing & Communications, and other campus partners, the Coordinator helps develop and advance a shared vision for the University's spirit programs that enhances school pride, student engagement, and the game-day experience. The Coordinator fosters collaboration among campus stakeholders to ensure the spirit programs are well organized, appropriately resourced, and aligned with the University's mission and strategic priorities. The position coordinates operational support for practices, performances, competitions, and campus events; facilitates purchasing, travel, equipment, and scheduling through Athletics; and promotes a unified and engaging spirit program that contributes to campus life. While Enrollment Management establishes recruiting strategy, budgets, and enrollment goals for the spirit programs, the Spirit Program Coordinator partners with coaches and campus stakeholders to support recruiting logistics, campus visit experiences, and the successful onboarding and engagement of new participants.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Experience in athletics administration, student activities, performing arts, spirit programs, event management, higher education, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize multiple projects and events simultaneously.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and standard administrative software.
  • Ability to attend and actively support athletic contests, practices, performances, and campus events.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during events.
  • Ability to lift and move equipment weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to travel occasionally for competitions or other University-related activities.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the administrative and operational activities of the University's spirit programs.
  • Facilitate communication and collaboration among coaches, Athletics and Recreation staff, and campus partners.
  • Coordinate annual calendars for practices, performances, competitions, athletic contests, and University events.
  • Promote consistency and collaboration across the University's spirit programs.
  • Recommend opportunities to enhance the effectiveness, visibility, and impact of the spirit programs.
  • Collaborate with Athletics and campus stakeholders to develop and advance a long-term vision for the University's spirit programs.
  • Build partnerships across Athletics, Enrollment Management, Recreation, Student Affairs, Admissions, Marketing & Communications, Alumni Relations, and other University departments.
  • Coordinate spirit program participation in institutional initiatives that enhance campus life and community engagement.
  • Serve as the primary administrative liaison for the University's spirit programs.
  • Support assessment efforts and recommend enhancements to strengthen student engagement and the overall game-day experience.
  • Promote an outstanding student experience for all spirit program participants.
  • Support student leadership, engagement, and personal development opportunities.
  • Coordinate onboarding and orientation activities for new participants.
  • Assist coaches and Athletics staff in fostering a positive, inclusive, and welcoming environment.
  • Encourage collaboration among spirit organizations to create a unified campus presence.
  • Coordinate facility scheduling, event logistics, and program calendars.
  • Work collaboratively with Athletics professional staff to facilitate purchasing, travel, uniforms, equipment, and vendor relationships utilizing established departmental processes.
  • Maintain inventories of uniforms, instruments, and program equipment.
  • Coordinate transportation and logistical support as needed.
  • Ensure spirit programs are appropriately represented at athletic contests and institutional events.
  • Assist in developing annual operating budgets for the spirit programs.
  • Monitor expenditures and budget performance.
  • Coordinate purchasing activities in accordance with university policies.
  • Identify opportunities to maximize available resources while maintaining high-quality student experiences.
  • Partner with Enrollment Management and coaches to support recruiting activities through coordinated campus visits, event participation, scheduling, and communications.
  • Assist in creating a welcoming and engaging experience for prospective students participating in spirit program recruitment.
  • Support participant onboarding and retention through a positive student experience.
  • Utilize Athletics' administrative infrastructure to support recruiting operations and logistics.
  • Support compliance with University, Athletics, and national governing body, policies and procedures.
  • Promote student safety and appropriate risk management practices.
  • Maintain program records, schedules, inventories, and operational documentation.
  • Coordinate meetings and communications among coaches and campus stakeholders as appropriate.
