About The Position

1st Pet Veterinary Centers is seeking a motivated and adaptable Specialty Float Veterinary Assistant to support its Internal Medicine and Surgery teams. This varied role suits someone who enjoys a fast-paced environment and is passionate about high-quality patient care. The assistant supports workflow, procedures, and the smooth operation of both departments by moving between teams and anticipating their needs. The schedule is Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with an alternating Wednesday with Friday.

Requirements

Previous veterinary assistant experience is required.
Strong animal handling and restraint skills.
Ability to multitask and stay organized in a fast-paced environment.
Positive attitude and strong team-oriented mindset.
Willingness to learn and adapt across multiple specialty services.

Nice To Haves

Specialty or emergency room experience is strongly preferred.
Familiarity with fear-free animal handling techniques is encouraged.

Responsibilities

Support veterinarians and technicians with patient care across Internal Medicine and Surgery.
Prepare patients for exams, diagnostics, and surgical procedures.
Assist with safe and effective animal handling and restraint; fear-free techniques are encouraged.
Assist with anesthesia preparation and patient recovery under supervision.
Clean, sterilize, and maintain surgical instruments according to hospital protocols.
Turn over surgical suites efficiently between procedures.
Maintain clean and organized treatment and procedure areas.
Stock and prepare supplies for daily operations.
Assist with diagnostics, including lab work, imaging support, and sample collection as directed.
Help manage patient flow between departments.
Support the team during high-volume periods as needed.
