About The Position

The Upward Skills Instructor is a specialized role within Communitas’s Day Services Program, mentoring individuals with higher abilities on the autism spectrum to enhance their independence. The role supports participants in networking socially, developing friendships, and creating new relationships through the Upward Program. The position is based in Beverly, Massachusetts, and is full-time, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., at $21.00 per hour.

Requirements

• High school diploma required.
• A passion and dedication for supporting the people served.
• Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
• Must pass company background and reference checks.

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor’s degree in Human Services or a related field preferred.
• At least one year of experience supporting adults with developmental disabilities preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide personal assistance, teaching, and support to a group of young people with autism without a developmental disability.
• Assess individuals’ training needs, develop descriptive teaching programs, and monitor their effectiveness through data collection.
• Adapt personal interests, such as art, music, cooking, and health and fitness, to teach others new skills.
• Develop and implement community-based activities.
• Provide personal care and assistance consistent with individuals’ needs as they work toward their goals.
