Skills Instructor
About The Position
DABS, Inc. provides skills training and supported living services to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Skills Instructors work directly with individuals to build skills that support employment, volunteer work, post-secondary education, community participation, and greater independence. The role provides person-centered instruction through planned community activities and outings, supports access to community resources, tracks progress, and works with a team of professionals to provide comprehensive support. DABS provides training for candidates who bring passion and dedication but do not have prior experience with individuals with developmental disabilities.
Requirements
- A caring attitude and commitment to helping others live with dignity and independence.
- Reliable transportation to and from work.
- A valid driver’s license, personal vehicle, and insurance.
- Willingness to undergo a state and federal fingerprint background check.
- CPR certification and a recent TB test; the employer can help obtain both if needed.

Responsibilities
- Provide person-centered instruction through planned community activities.
- Help individuals access community resources, plan engaging activities, and strengthen their skills.
- Take individuals on community outings for appointments, errands, and recreation.
- Track and document progress through accurate, concise case notes.
- Redirect inappropriate behaviors and facilitate positive resolutions to challenges.
- Collaborate with a team of professionals to ensure comprehensive support.
