About The Position

This is a Part Time (PT), Temporary (T) position with a 24-hour workweek and variable hours. Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is required. The instructor will report to the Recreation Programmer/Coordinator and is responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing high-quality, stimulating, and enjoyable programs for all participants, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times. The role involves keeping current with industry trends, assisting and mentoring volunteers, maintaining vigilance, providing excellent customer service, completing administrative duties, maintaining a safe program space, and reporting concerns or incidents to a supervisor.

Requirements

  • Minimum 16 years of age
  • Proven and demonstrated experience in one or more of the disciplines listed below
  • Current Standard First Aid / CPR OR Intermeditate First Aid with CPR-C and AED from an accredited organization or ability to obtain within 1 month of date of hire
  • Exceptional customer service and communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Certification, or member, of a professional association considered an asset
  • HIGH FIVE® Principles of Healthy Child Development or Sport Certification, or ability to obtain within 2 months of the date of hire

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize and deliver high quality safe and stimulating lessons for all levels of participants
  • Keep current with industry trends and class formats
  • Assist and mentoring volunteers and assistants
  • Maintain complete vigilance while on duty and be ready to respond to any emergency situation
  • Provide a high level of front line customer service including greeting and engaging participants
  • Complete administrative duties in a timely manner (e.g. attendance, incident/accident reports)
  • Maintain a safe and tidy program space ensuring equipment is set-up and stored appropriately
  • Report all concerns, accidents and incidents to immediate supervisor and take appropriate action
  • Maintain an understanding of department programs and services
  • Understand, adhere to, and enforce Corporate Policies & Procedures, Confidentiality Guidelines, Emergency Procedures and Health and Safety Standards for all participants and staff
  • Attend meetings/training as required
  • Performs other duties as assigned
