About The Position

The Specialist, Repair Shop repairs musical instruments in a timely and proficient manner so that they are returned to customers in good playing order. The technician may specialize in one instrument type or work on multiple types. Work includes customer-owned and retail instruments ranging from student to professional level. The position also involves completing work at a rate and quality that meet the shop’s standards, with other duties assigned as needed, such as assisting at repair clinics or school events.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Apprenticeship or a diploma from an accredited repair school.

Nice To Haves

• At least 6 years of daily experience working on musical instruments (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Clean and repair at least one type of instrument: brass, woodwind, orchestral, or percussion.
• Provide estimates for instrument repairs.
• Work to a timetable and ensure repairs are completed within the estimated cost and time.
• Repair customer-owned and retail instruments, from student-level to professional instruments.
• Perform work at an hourly rate in excess of the shop’s hourly rate and ensure excellent quality.
• Assist at repair clinics or school events, as assigned.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
