Requirements

  • High school education and/or equivalent required.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience as a bus repair and overhaul mechanic specializing in diesel equipment.
  • Experience supervising mechanics and/or service employees, preferably in a mass transit setting.
  • Valid Virginia CDL required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills required.
  • Ability to work with computerized maintenance software systems required.

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring mechanically sound and safe motor vehicles are available in an economically timely manner.
  • Performing mechanical repairs to motor vehicles (predominately CNG-powered passenger buses, but includes some diesel and gasoline powered vehicles), both in a shop and during service calls to repair and/or recover vehicles.
  • Trains employees, schedules job assignments and monitors work.
  • Provides technical assistance regarding repairs and replacement of parts and units.
  • Make decisions on necessary repairs and replacement of parts.
  • Monitors workflow, investigating reasons for delays (e.g. awaiting parts) and takes appropriate steps to expedite the process.
  • Prepares requisitions for repair parts and supplies.
  • Checks and approves time records.
  • Prepares daily time sheets.
  • Administers company and departmental policies.
  • Checks for the serviceability of tools/equipment and ensures personnel are trained in the proper use.
