About The Position

This role is responsible for the reliability, availability, and safe operation of plant utility systems that directly support manufacturing operations. This role oversees maintenance and performance of compressed air systems, cooling towers, vacuum pumps, boilers, and associated distribution systems critical to production throughput, quality, and safety. The Specialist has oversight over maintenance technicians, manages contractors, and partners closely with Production, Engineering, and EHS to minimize downtime and support manufacturing demand. This position may include direct reports and/or oversight of temporary project support.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or education equivalent with a preference towards a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering
  • Minimum of 4 years experience doing broad training in a related field usually acquired through college or work-related experience.
  • Minimum of 4 years experience doing job related experience in an industrial environment with a focus on electrical, mechanical or maintenance role.
  • Minimum of 4 years experience doing Supervisory or leadership experience preferred.

  • Working knowledge of automated and high speed manufacturing production processes, product specifications and technology of equipment; industrial electrical systems, line speed alterations, automation & controls, support equipment, and conveyance.
  • Working knowledge of maintenance planning and work order systems.
  • Working knowledge of negotiating with contractors for facilities/building maintenance.
  • Working knowledge of hazardous waste management awareness and compliance, and other environmental management requirements in the workplace by attending scheduled training sessions.
  • Working knowledge of generally accepted supervisory practices and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring uninterrupted production by maintaining high availability and reliability of critical support equipment (compressors, cooling towers, vacuum systems, boilers), directly reducing utility-related downtime and supporting consistent throughput and OEE performance.
  • Creating a consistently safe operating environment by eliminating hazards, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and maintaining readiness for emergency response involving high-risk utility systems (pressure, steam, rotating equipment).
  • Optimizing maintenance strategies, energy efficiency, spare parts management, and contractor execution to reduce operating, maintenance, and energy costs while extending equipment life.
  • Ensuring utility systems are capable, scalable, and aligned with production schedules, line speeds, and future growth by collaborating with Production and Engineering on capacity planning and capital projects.
  • Driving discipline in maintenance execution through standardized SOPs, reliability practices, KPI tracking, and continuous improvement methods to stabilize processes and improve long‑term performance.
