About The Position

This position is responsible for general business administration operations of the Recreation Center and requires the use of independent judgment, initiative, and discretion. The Special Program Coordinator will be responsible for the operations of the city's Recreation Center, supervising staff and programs, collecting and accounting for receipts, developing and operating activity programs, general maintenance and upkeep of the Recreation Center and pool, inventory control, processing purchase orders, and resolving customer problems and complaints. The role also involves scheduling and coordinating activities, games, and practices, producing promotional materials, formulating and supervising employee work assignments and schedules, and performing other related duties as assigned. The position requires a self-starting individual who can follow instructions, take initiative, and see projects through to completion without continuous prompting. Demonstrated ability to be dependable, organized, flexible, and service-oriented is essential. Extensive knowledge of recreational programming, aquatics, and facility management software is required, along with excellent interpersonal skills for interacting with diverse customers, staff, and city administration. The employee must be able to maintain cooperative working relationships and work flexible hours. All municipal employees are expected to show and maintain a high level of initiative, enthusiasm, and motivation towards the improvement of ALL aspects of the Freeport community. Employees will also be expected to be available for work, to report to work in a dependable and timely fashion, and to be physically and mentally fit to do their assigned work. Must pass a drug analysis test, physical exam, and successfully complete a background check.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must have a valid Texas driver's license or the ability to obtain one within 90-days of hire.
  • An ability to facilitate positive community relations is required.
  • Be able to work with the general public, and Recreation Center staff.
  • Computer, word processing and typing skills are required.
  • Employee is required to sit, walk, frequently carry objects, occasionally may need to move department equipment or supplies in excess of 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to work in a pressure environment, handling many work assignments at the same time.
  • Job will require judgment decisions in prioritizing work assignments and personnel.
  • In addition, the Special Program Coordinator must be able to maintain good employee relations and good community relations when dealing with irate or unhappy citizens acting in a professional manner.
  • Employees will also be expected to be available for work, to report to work in a dependable and timely fashion, and to be physically and mentally fit to do their assigned work.
  • Must pass a drug analysis test, physical exam, and successfully complete a background check.

  • Knowledge of Recreation operations.
  • Computer skills to include skill in the use of facility management software.
  • Possession of excellent interpersonal skills with customers from various backgrounds, staff and city administration.
  • Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with the public, customers, staff and city administration.
  • Ability to work flexible hours.
