About The Position

This is a student employment position within the Office of Community Engagement, specifically for the Special Olympics CT program. The role is designated as Federal Work-Study. The assistant will support the management of the volunteer database, assist with athletic event preparations, and handle volunteer communication and materials.

Requirements

  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Be committed to the philosophy, needs and rewards of working with Special Olympics
  • Be enthusiastic and outgoing
  • Have excellent organizational, writing and communication skills
  • Be experienced using Excel, Word, Publisher and PowerPoint
  • Be able to work some nights and weekends if required
  • Applicants must have time available within those offices hours to be able to work at this location.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in managing the SOCT volunteer registration database
  • Assist in the preparations for athletic events including but not limited to: volunteer registration and data entry
  • Runs reports and queries of volunteers and assignments prior to events
  • Creates volunteer recruitment and thank you letters
  • Utilizes telephone and e-mail to follow-up with volunteer inquiries
  • Clears Volunteer Hotline and send out Volunteer Interest Surveys
  • Helps with sporting event materials such as credentials, labels, flyers, etc
