Special Needs Caregiver (DSP) - part-time
About The Position
BAYADA is hiring a part-time Direct Support Professional (DSP) to provide one-on-one support to individuals with autism, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, and other intellectual and developmental disabilities. The role provides person-centered assistance in community settings to help clients build independence, achieve personal goals, and participate in their communities. Opportunities are available in Hilo, Keaau, Mountain View, Pepeekeo, Ocean View, Hawi, Kealakekua, and surrounding areas on Hawaii Island. The caregiver engages clients in favorite hobbies and activities, supports community integration and errands, and patiently encourages progress toward personal goals. The role may include personal care assistance and transporting clients to community activities. BAYADA offers clinical manager support, flexible scheduling, weekly pay starting at $20 per hour, mileage reimbursement, and opportunities to earn higher rates when supporting clients with more complex needs.
Requirements
- One year of experience supporting individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities.
- Ability to transport clients to community activities.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Ability to read and write in English.
- Weekday and weekend availability.
Responsibilities
- Spend time with clients engaging in their favorite hobbies and activities.
- Support community integration, leisure activities, errands, and other enjoyable activities.
- Patiently teach and encourage clients, celebrate achievements, and give them space to grow.
- Provide personal care assistance as needed.
- Transport clients to community activities.
