About The Position

The Boeing Company is hiring an Associate or Mid-Level engineer for its Electronics Packaging and Mechanical Product Design Team within Boeing Defense, Space and Security’s Space, Intelligence & Weapons Systems division. The role is based in El Segundo, California, and is expected to be 100% onsite. The team performs in-house work across the product lifecycle, from initial design through prototyping and production, including mechanical PCB design, electronics packaging, and thermal, structural, and vibration analysis. Projects may involve satellite missions, multichip modules, microelectronics, and electronic systems. The engineer will coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to develop requirements and designs, perform structural and thermal analysis, collaborate on PCB layout and routing, and validate designs through review, testing, and analysis. The role also supports process improvement, root-cause investigations, technical performance tracking, supplier decisions, and development of concepts using emerging technologies. The position works under general direction. The selected candidate must be able to obtain a U.S. security clearance; a final U.S. Top Secret/SCI clearance is required after starting. The role also requires compliance with U.S. export control requirements. Boeing does not sponsor employment visas. Relocation may be available based on eligibility.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering focused on Electrical, Mechanical, or Aeronautical Engineering; Computer Science; Data Science; Mathematics; Physics; Chemistry; or a directly related non-U.S. equivalent qualification.
  • At least 2 years of experience using Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tools.
  • Experience in at least one of the following areas: electronic packaging; printed circuit board design and assembly (PCB/PCBA); or thermal, structural, dynamics, and/or vibration analysis and tools.
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. security clearance; U.S. citizenship is required for the clearance. A final U.S. Top Secret/SCI clearance is required after starting.
  • Meet U.S. export control compliance requirements as a U.S. Person.

  • For Mid-Level (Level 3): 5 or more years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience.
  • Active U.S. Top Secret/SCI security clearance.
  • Experience in aerospace or a related industry, or with space electronics.
  • Experience with ANSYS analysis, Creo CAD, SolidWorks, Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Siemens NX Nastran, MSC Patran, or COMSOL Multiphysics.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to communicate across disciplines with internal and external customers.
  • Ability to collect, organize, synthesize, and analyze data; summarize findings; and develop conclusions and recommendations from appropriate data sources.
  • Experience leading teams on complex projects.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary groups to develop and understand requirements and create high-level and detailed designs consistent with those requirements.
  • Guide structural design and configuration development through trade studies that optimize structure and meet program requirements.
  • Perform detailed structural and thermal analysis using hand calculations and analysis tools.
  • Document structural analyses and data to demonstrate compliance with Boeing, customer, and regulatory requirements at module, slice, and unit levels.
  • Collaborate with Electrical Engineering on sizing and placement studies, and on printed circuit board layout and routing.
  • Validate designs through reviews, testing, and analysis.
  • Develop, deploy, and support new processes and process improvements to improve engineering efficiency, reduce cycle time, and drive product improvements.
  • Conduct root-cause and corrective-action investigations into failures and develop go-forward plans.
  • Identify, track, and report technical performance measures to measure progress and ensure requirements compliance.
  • Support Supplier Management with make-or-buy recommendations and other limited-scope technical services.
  • Investigate emerging technologies and develop concepts for future product designs to meet projected requirements.

Benefits
