About The Position

Microsoft’s Global Skilling Product Team (GSPT) develops skilling products and experiences intended to help customers, partners, sellers, and future generations build skills, with a goal of reaching more than 100 million learners. The team is working to make skilling content accessible across platforms and to modernize content operations and release processes, including the use of AI-assisted features. The Software Engineer II is a hands-on engineer who designs and implements learning and skilling solutions for Microsoft’s platforms. The role focuses on Azure full-stack development, engineering infrastructure, CI/CD, service reliability, automated testing, and secure, scalable software. The engineer collaborates with teams and partners across Microsoft to deliver and maintain enterprise solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field and at least 2 years of technical engineering experience coding in languages such as C#, JavaScript, or Python, or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of data structures, algorithms, and software design principles.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate in a multidisciplinary team of Software Engineers, Program Managers, and Data Scientists.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field and at least 3 years of technical engineering experience coding in languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python; or a bachelor’s degree in a related field and at least 5 years of such experience; or equivalent experience.
  • At least 2 years of experience with cloud development principles and patterns, particularly loosely coupled architectures, microservices, and DevOps.
  • At least 2 years of experience coding in C#, .NET, and React.
  • At least 2 years of experience building deployment pipelines from scratch and using Infrastructure as Code templates such as Azure Resource Manager templates or Bicep.
  • At least 2 years of experience in database development with Azure SQL, Cosmos DB, or Azure Data Factory.
  • Experience with Python and AI/LLM-based tools and frameworks, particularly for analyzing test failures and predicting root causes.
  • Experience developing applications with RESTful APIs, microservices architecture, ASP.NET, and Azure AI Foundry, with a focus on scalable enterprise solutions.
  • Enterprise-scale technical experience with cloud and hybrid infrastructures, architecture designs, migrations, and technology management.
  • Knowledge of Azure DevOps or similar CI/CD platforms for integrating and managing test gates.
  • Production experience in two or more of the following: automated secret and certificate management; private firewalled networks with VPNs; multiple automated Kubernetes clusters; a global multi-region technology stack; automated API gateways; or automated code-first data pipelines, preferably Azure Data Factory.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain engineering infrastructure, tools, and services supporting CI/CD for Microsoft Learning (Skilling) platforms and services.
  • Develop software features for Skilling platforms, including requirements gathering, architecture, application and database design, development, testing, and deployment.
  • Apply engineering practices to deliver high-quality, scalable, and secure solutions, and develop Copilot features to improve user experience and productivity.
  • Support and maintain existing services and integrations with enterprise Line of Business applications.
  • Establish and enforce practices for coding, testing, and documentation to maintain code quality, performance, and service reliability.
  • Improve test framework reliability and debuggability through automation and gates.
  • Use AI/LLM models to analyze test failures and identify root causes, including test flakiness and infrastructure issues.
  • Automate manual testing efforts currently handled by vendor Directly Responsible Individuals.
  • Optimize, debug, refactor, and reuse code to improve performance, maintainability, effectiveness, and return on investment; use metrics and appropriate coding patterns to improve code quality and stability.
  • Work across organizations and with partners, engineers, and product leaders at WWL and Microsoft.
  • Identify dependencies and develop design documents for security features; determine how teams and technologies interact and how systems may support other teams.
  • Assess upstream and downstream effects to ensure security and performance, improve solution reliability, and optimize dependency chains and retrievals across teams.
  • Identify dependencies and areas of overlap with other teams, coordinate work, communicate across teams, and resolve conflicts.
  • Embody Microsoft’s culture and values.
