Software Engineering Architect — Digital Marketing Technology

Salesforce•Indianapolis, IN
•$218,400 - $401,400

About The Position

Salesforce is seeking a Software Engineering Architect to lead the architectural strategy and coherence of its Events Technology ecosystem. Reporting directly to the VP of Engineering, this role spans the event lifecycle, from registration and attendee experience through agenda management, event marketing, and on-site and virtual delivery. The goal is to ensure these systems operate as a unified, scalable platform supporting events such as Dreamforce, TrailblazerDX, Tableau Conference, Connections, World Tours, webinars, and field events. The architect will partner with Product Leads, Engineering, and Event Marketing, combining strategic leadership with the ability to dive into code and configuration, prototype complex workflows, and validate decisions through hands-on reference implementations. The role establishes architectural direction and standards, enables engineering teams, resolves cross-team technical blockers, and aligns event systems with enterprise architecture. It also provides technical feedback to Salesforce product teams based on the use of Salesforce products at event scale.

Requirements

  • 12+ years of professional software engineering experience.
  • 5+ years in an architectural role designing distributed systems at enterprise scale.
  • Experience architecting solutions across technical domains relevant to event technology, including Data Cloud, Agentforce or AI agents, marketing journey orchestration, identity, content management, and event or registration platforms.
  • Direct experience with event registration, attendee management, agenda or session tooling, or ticketing platforms; ideally at large scale and under fixed event-date deadlines.
  • Ability to read and write code or configuration as needed, build proofs of concept, and debug complex integrations.
  • Proven ability to influence Product Leads and engineering leadership and articulate trade-offs between long-term quality and urgent delivery.
  • Expert-level understanding of Salesforce platform capabilities, particularly Data Cloud ingestion patterns and Agentforce architectures.
  • Experience building scalable microservice applications on public cloud infrastructure to handle event-day traffic spikes; AWS examples include API Gateway, Lambda, SNS, SQS, ElastiCache, and AppSync.
  • Experience building conversational agents, copilots, and autonomous agents for attendee-facing use cases, and familiarity with large language models.
  • Experience building integrations and pipelines to the AWS SageMaker ML platform.
  • Experience with high-scale data streams, such as Apache Kafka or Kinesis, especially for real-time event and check-in data.
  • Knowledge of NoSQL databases such as DynamoDB and graph databases such as Neo4j or Neptune.
  • Experience working with Agile software delivery and DevOps practices.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD principles and experience resolving issues in distributed services ecosystems, including load and scale testing ahead of major events.
  • Experience mentoring lead engineers.
  • Ability to evaluate problem spaces and make technology decisions based on attendee and customer needs.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for collaboration with business and technical stakeholders.
  • Hands-on fluency with modern AI tools, including using LLMs or copilots for code generation, debugging, and design exploration; working knowledge of prompt engineering and agent orchestration patterns; and experience designing and evaluating AI-driven workflows and systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience transitioning legacy service-provider models into scalable, product-led engineering organizations.
  • Experience with Federated GraphQL architectures.
  • Direct experience in Event Technology, Digital Marketing, or AdTech, particularly large-scale conference or field-event platforms.
  • Experience with on-site event technology such as badge printing and scanning, kiosk check-in, mobile event apps, and real-time capacity or session-fill monitoring.

Responsibilities

  • Define and drive the software architecture vision across the Events Technology portfolio, ensuring architectural integrity and integration across event platforms, AI and agents, data and identity, marketing orchestration, and core platform services.
  • Validate high-stakes architectural decisions through code-level deep dives and hands-on prototypes, including reference implementations of new technologies and workflows.
  • Establish architectural standards, conduct design reviews, empower event engineering teams, and resolve cross-team technical blockers ahead of high-traffic event moments.
  • Partner with Product Leads across Events, Marketing, and Digital Marketing Technology to align technical capabilities with event and product roadmaps.
  • Collaborate with architects across Digital Enterprise Technology to align event technology with enterprise-wide initiatives and architecture patterns.
  • Engage with Salesforce product teams, including Agentforce, Sales Cloud, Data Cloud, and Marketing Cloud, and provide feedback on APIs, limits, and capabilities based on internal event implementations.
  • Influence product and engineering leadership and explain trade-offs between long-term architectural health and delivery needs tied to event deadlines.
  • Mentor lead engineers and enable engineering teams without becoming a bottleneck for critical-path delivery.
