About The Position

Madewithlove is seeking a full-time experienced software engineer (f/m/x) to join their 100% remote team. The ideal candidate will be adept at making complex systems understandable, comfortable working with legacy code and existing teams, and committed to delivering high-quality code according to the latest standards. Madewithlove assists tech start-ups and scale-ups in growing by developing high-quality applications and shaping client teams and their work methodologies. This role involves working on projects for Belgian and international clients, collaborating with hybrid teams, and contributing to a diverse and inclusive work environment. The company specifically encourages applications from underrepresented groups and is committed to an equitable hiring process.

Requirements

  • Deep expertise in one or more of the core stacks: PHP (mostly Laravel), Python (Django, FastAPI), or JavaScript (React, Next.js).
  • Comfortable working across back-end, front-end, and infrastructure.
  • Ability to take a business problem, talk to stakeholders, and own the solution from ideation to release.
  • Ability to write modern, high-quality code.
  • Ability to deliver at speed by shipping small increments frequently.
  • Ability to run work in parallel, where agentic development allows.
  • Ability to make architecture, infrastructure, and technology choices that fit the problem, including at scale.
  • Ability to build and maintain foundations: quality guardrails (testing, static analysis), delivery pipelines (CI/CD, feature flags), and observability.
  • Ability to turn recurring work into reusable, version-controlled skills and tooling for agents.
  • Good at software archaeology.
  • Ability to delve into undocumented legacy code to uncover and document the hidden business logic.
  • Ability to migrate codebases piece by piece without stopping the business.
  • Ability to leave things better than found and drive initiatives to reduce technical debt.
  • Live and work between UTC-01:00 and UTC+03:00 time zones.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in product/SaaS startup and scale-up environments.
  • Experience in data engineering work: pipelines, warehouses, analytics, or machine learning.
  • Enjoy sharing your thinking publicly, whether in writing or on stage.

  • Work independently and efficiently, as well as in a team.
  • Fulfill promises, take ownership, and manage time flexibly.
  • Take a business problem, talk to stakeholders, and own the solution from ideation to release.
  • Engineer products, not just tickets.
  • Write modern, high-quality code, and direct agentic coding tools.
  • Deliver at speed by shipping small increments frequently.
  • Run work in parallel where agentic development allows.
