About The Position

This is a remote consulting opportunity for experienced software engineers with strong backend expertise. Contributors help create technically challenging coding tasks for advanced AI training and software-engineering evaluation projects, and produce reference implementations and deterministic verifiers. Work applies practical engineering judgment to feature development, bug fixing, refactoring, performance optimization, testing, and technical review. Prior AI experience is not required. The engagement is for independent contractors, with an expected commitment of approximately 15 hours per week and a flexible schedule across weekdays or weekends. Compensation is displayed as $30–$100 per hour, but the actual payment structure is output-based: contributors are paid per task that meets project specifications. Time per task may vary, and minimum weekly submission requirements apply, though the exact number of tasks is not specified. Selection may include an approximately 30-minute AI interview, a tentative technical assessment, and hiring-manager review. Interview, assessment, and project work must be completed without outside assistance. Roles are typically filled within approximately 48 hours, and selected contributors should be prepared to begin initial tasks within approximately 24–48 hours after onboarding. Work must not use confidential or proprietary information belonging to any employer, client, institution, organization, or other third party. The opportunity is offered through 24-MAG LLC, which connects experienced professionals with remote consulting opportunities across technical, evaluation, and project-based workstreams.

Requirements

  • Strong professional backend software-engineering experience.
  • Expertise in one or more of Java, Node.js, Go, Rust, TypeScript, Python, C++, or similar languages.
  • Track record of building scalable services and APIs.
  • Strong debugging and software-troubleshooting capabilities.
  • Experience identifying and resolving performance bottlenecks.
  • Proven ability to implement complex features in established applications.
  • Experience refactoring large or evolving codebases.
  • Strong understanding of algorithms and data structures.
  • Solid automated-testing and code-review instincts.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Clear technical written communication.
  • Ability to work independently in a flexible remote environment.
  • Complete interview, assessment, and project work without outside assistance.
  • Do not use confidential or proprietary information belonging to an employer, client, institution, organization, or other third party.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience designing test strategies or maintaining large test suites.
  • Ability to diagnose flaky tests and improve testing standards.

Responsibilities

  • Create realistic software-engineering tasks involving feature implementation and bug fixes.
  • Design challenges that reflect professional backend-development scenarios, with clear technical requirements, constraints, and expected behavior.
  • Ensure coding tasks are sufficiently complex to evaluate engineering reasoning and apply practical software-development experience in their creation.
  • Develop and evaluate scalable backend services and APIs, and implement complex features within established codebases.
  • Apply sound algorithms, data structures, and computer-science fundamentals while maintaining correctness, maintainability, and performance.
  • Identify and resolve software defects and system bottlenecks, and diagnose unexpected behavior across complex applications.
  • Refactor existing code to improve structure and maintainability, and optimize implementation performance where required.
  • Evaluate trade-offs among reliability, complexity, scalability, and efficiency.
  • Develop deterministic verifiers that accept reasonable valid solutions and reject incorrect implementations.
  • Design automated tests for expected behavior and edge cases, diagnose flaky or unreliable test behavior, and apply sound testing strategies.
  • Review software-engineering outputs for technical accuracy and completeness against task specifications.
  • Identify weak reasoning, incomplete fixes, or inappropriate engineering approaches, and provide precise technical feedback.
  • Maintain consistent quality standards across repeated evaluation workflows.
