About The Position

This is a part-time, fully remote independent contractor consulting engagement available globally through 24-MAG LLC. The engineer will contribute to an advanced AI training and software-evaluation project by creating, solving, reviewing, and validating challenging software-engineering tasks across complete application stacks. Work includes front-end and back-end development, APIs, databases, debugging, architecture, testing, multi-language engineering, and evaluation of AI-generated code. The role requires hands-on experience with front-end and back-end systems, strong debugging skills, and the ability to work in unfamiliar repositories and assess code for correctness, performance, security, and maintainability. The expected commitment is approximately 15 hours per week. The schedule is flexible, and contributors may choose their working hours and days, including weekends, provided there is regular activity. The displayed compensation range is $50–$100 per hour, but compensation is output-based and paid per task that meets project specifications. Task completion time may vary, and minimum weekly submission requirements apply; the exact number of required tasks is not specified. Roles are typically filled within approximately 48 hours, and selected experts are expected to begin initial tasks within approximately 24–48 hours after onboarding. Project scope, repositories, languages, and evaluation standards may evolve. Work must not use confidential or proprietary information belonging to an employer, client, private repository, software organisation, or other third party.

Requirements

  • Strong professional experience developing production full-stack applications.
  • Meaningful hands-on experience with both front-end and back-end engineering.
  • Production experience with multiple programming languages.
  • Strong knowledge of browser applications, APIs, databases, application state, and service integration.
  • Experience contributing to complete software-system architecture.
  • Ability to work effectively in unfamiliar codebases.
  • Strong debugging and technical problem-solving skills.
  • Experience evaluating code for correctness, security, performance, and maintainability.
  • Ability to work without using confidential or proprietary information belonging to an employer, client, private repository, software organisation, or other third party.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with React is valuable.
  • Experience translating implementations between programming languages is advantageous.
  • Prior AI-training or model-evaluation experience is not required.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and modify front-end and back-end application components.
  • Build user-facing features, APIs, services, and supporting data models.
  • Work across browser applications, databases, external integrations, and service layers.
  • Manage application state, authentication, persistence, and client-server interactions.
  • Implement changes that fit existing architecture and coding conventions.
  • Diagnose failures involving application state, APIs, networking, authentication, databases, and deployment.
  • Trace requests and data across system boundaries to identify root causes.
  • Work effectively within unfamiliar repositories and understand existing architecture.
  • Evaluate architectural fit, system dependencies, and implementation trade-offs.
  • Develop technically sound and maintainable fixes.
  • Review and modify code across Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, Java, Node.js, Rust, Go, or comparable technologies.
  • Translate software implementations between languages where required while preserving intended behaviour and architectural constraints.
  • Develop or review unit, integration, regression, and end-to-end tests; validate fixes and identify missing test coverage.
  • Review AI-generated solutions for correctness, completeness, performance, security, and maintainability.
  • Identify implementation or architectural weaknesses and assess whether solutions fit repository conventions.
  • Provide structured technical feedback and document engineering decisions and findings clearly.
