About The Position

This is a part-time, fully remote independent-contractor consulting engagement for experienced CAD, mechanical-design, and computational-geometry professionals contributing to an AI training and technical evaluation project. The work focuses on CAD and mechanical geometry rather than general hardware support or electronics. Professionals interpret dimensioned engineering schematics, reproduce them as precise 3D solid models, automate geometry creation with Python, and validate models against geometric and physical requirements. The engagement is open worldwide and expects approximately 15 hours per week, with a flexible schedule that may include evenings or weekends. Compensation is output-based, at $50–$100 per hour, for tasks meeting project specifications. Minimum submission requirements apply. The selection process may include screening questions, an approximately 30-minute AI interview, and hiring-manager review. Selected professionals should be prepared to begin their first task within approximately 24–48 hours of completing onboarding. Work must not use confidential or proprietary information belonging to any employer, client, institution, or other third party. The opportunity is available through 24-MAG LLC, which connects experienced professionals with remote consulting opportunities across technical, evaluation, and project-based workstreams. Applicants acknowledge that their information may be processed by 24-MAG LLC for recruitment and opportunity matching in accordance with its Privacy Policy.

Requirements

  • Strong Python programming ability.
  • Hands-on experience with 3D CAD, computational geometry, or mechanical modelling.
  • Ability to interpret dimensioned engineering drawings and schematics.
  • Strong 3D spatial reasoning and attention to geometric precision.
  • Experience validating, debugging, or troubleshooting CAD models.
  • Comfort generating or modifying CAD programmatically.
  • Ability to work with complex curves, lofts, sweeps, fillets, chamfers, and Boolean geometry.
  • Ability to complete work without using confidential or proprietary information belonging to an employer, client, institution, or other third party.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with build123d, CadQuery, FreeCAD, OpenCascade, Fusion 360, Onshape, SolidWorks, trimesh, or comparable platforms.
  • Experience with AutoCAD or other professional CAD environments.
  • Relevant skills demonstrated through experience as a mechanical designer, CAD specialist, engineer, researcher, maker, or independent technical expert; formal education and fixed years of professional experience are not required.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret dimensions, constraints, geometric relationships, and design intent from technical drawings and dimensioned schematics.
  • Translate 2D engineering schematics into accurate 3D mechanical models while maintaining dimensional accuracy.
  • Resolve geometric relationships across complex components and decompose components into suitable geometric features.
  • Create curved profiles, sweeps, lofts, fillets, chamfers, and Boolean operations, and diagnose incorrect or unstable modelling approaches.
  • Use Python to generate, automate, or manipulate CAD geometry and develop reproducible scripted modelling workflows.
  • Work with programmatic CAD libraries or platforms and integrate computational geometry into clean technical workflows.
  • Ensure models can be consistently regenerated from code or scripted inputs.
  • Export valid, watertight solid models in formats such as STEP.
  • Validate dimensions, topology, volume, surface area, and inertia properties; compare generated geometry with expected design requirements and diagnose differences.
  • Confirm model outputs meet geometric and physical constraints.
  • Produce solutions that work reliably in clean technical environments and document modelling logic and validation steps.
  • Troubleshoot invalid geometry, broken solids, and modelling inconsistencies, maintaining reproducible CAD generation and verification workflows.
  • Apply careful quality control to technically demanding geometry tasks.
