About The Position

This is a specialized, part-time independent consulting opportunity for experienced Software Engineers contributing to an advanced AI training and software engineering evaluation project through 24-MAG LLC. Selected professionals will create reproducible reinforcement-learning environments that test AI systems on realistic software engineering problems and develop validated reference solutions. Tasks may include debugging complex code, implementing features, refactoring existing systems, optimizing performance, and reviewing technical submissions. Work requires strong hands-on engineering ability, sound technical judgment, clear documentation, and the ability to validate solutions. Prior AI experience is not required. The engagement is fully remote and expected to require approximately 15 hours per week. Compensation is $50–$100 per hour and is output-based, with payment for tasks meeting project specifications. Minimum weekly submission requirements apply. Selected professionals should be prepared to begin their first tasks within approximately 24–48 hours after completing onboarding. Project scope, task complexity, workload, and evaluation standards may evolve with project requirements. Work must not use confidential or proprietary information belonging to an employer, client, institution, or other third party.

Requirements

  • Significant hands-on expertise in at least one of Python3, Java, Rust, Go, C++, or TypeScript.
  • Deep understanding of algorithms, data structures, and software engineering fundamentals.
  • Proven ability to debug complex systems and resolve technically challenging defects.
  • Strong experience implementing production-quality features.
  • Experience with performance optimization and technical bottleneck analysis.
  • Strong ability to reason about code correctness, edge cases, maintainability, and system behavior.
  • Excellent technical documentation and communication skills.
  • Ability to review other engineers’ code and explain technical concerns precisely.
  • Ability to meet minimum weekly submission requirements.
  • Work must be completed without using confidential or proprietary information belonging to any employer, client, institution, or other third party.

Nice To Haves

  • Background in large-codebase refactoring or legacy-system modernization.
  • Track record of delivering meaningful features from design through implementation.
  • Interest in AI systems and technical evaluation.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute expert-level code and technical solutions in Python3, Java, Rust, Go, C++, TypeScript, or comparable languages.
  • Work across realistic, production-style codebases and software engineering scenarios.
  • Implement robust functionality while considering scalability, maintainability, and software quality.
  • Apply algorithms, data structures, and engineering principles to complex development tasks.
  • Produce solutions that can be reproduced and independently validated.
  • Analyze and resolve complex software defects across diverse codebases.
  • Identify root causes of bugs, incorrect behavior, and system failures.
  • Diagnose performance bottlenecks and inefficient implementation patterns.
  • Develop technically rigorous fixes, address edge cases, and validate behavior across relevant conditions.
  • Refactor legacy or complex code to improve readability, maintainability, and reliability.
  • Identify architectural or implementation weaknesses that limit long-term scalability.
  • Optimize software performance while preserving correctness and assess trade-offs among performance, complexity, maintainability, and development effort.
  • Modernize existing code where appropriate without introducing unnecessary regressions.
  • Create reproducible reinforcement-learning environments and golden reference solutions for complex software engineering tasks.
  • Design evaluation tasks involving bug fixing, feature implementation, refactoring, and performance optimization.
  • Document technical reasoning, implementation decisions, and validation methods clearly.
  • Review and validate peer-contributed code and technical submissions for correctness, clarity, and reproducibility.
