About The Position

Airbnb’s Payments Growth team builds payment features that drive revenue growth and economically empower its global community of guests and hosts. The team works closely with Product, Design, Data Science, and Finance. Its flagship product is the Earnings Dashboard, where hosts track earnings and performance, receive recommendations, and download reports. The Software Engineer will build backend services and APIs for the Earnings Dashboard and other payments features. The role translates product, compliance, and regulatory requirements into clean, well-tested code and builds the data and services supporting host metrics, recommendations, and reports. It also implements experimentation, logging, and metrics to measure product impact, uses data to identify and address conversion, engagement, and reliability gaps, and contributes to code reviews, technical design, and operational improvements. The position is US-remote eligible, subject to state eligibility. Occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites may be agreed with the manager.

Requirements

At least 2 years of hands-on experience in software engineering in backend or full-stack development.
Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree, preferably in Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
Exposure to Java and experience building services in a distributed microservice environment.
Fluency in frontend web technologies such as HTML, CSS, React, and GraphQL.
Demonstrated expertise in backend systems within large-scale service-oriented architectures.
Passion for efficiency, availability, technical quality, and system quality.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to work effectively within engineering and cross-functional organizations.

Responsibilities

Build backend services and APIs for the Earnings Dashboard and other payments features that help hosts grow their income and drive Airbnb revenue.
Translate product, compliance, and regulatory requirements into clean, well-tested code.
Build and maintain the data and services behind host performance metrics, recommendations, and reports, ensuring they are accurate and fast.
Implement experimentation, logging, and metrics so Product and Data Science can test changes and measure their impact on hosts and the business.
Partner with Product, Design, Data Science, Finance, Legal, and other engineering teams to deliver business-growth projects.
Use data to identify gaps in conversion, host engagement, and reliability, and drive fixes and improvements.
Participate in code reviews, technical design discussions, and operational improvements across the team.
Architect and implement complex features, with attention to data-driven decisions and performance optimization.
Collaborate with engineers and cross-functional partners to understand and prioritize technical requirements.
Grow knowledge of leading-edge practices and trends.
Help define and improve coding standards, development processes, and best practices.
