About The Position

As part of Apple’s Silicon Technologies group, the Software Engineer helps validate Apple Silicon system-on-chips (SoCs) and CPUs to support the development of high-quality, high-performance, power-efficient products. The team uses a bare-metal, system-level software suite, primarily post-silicon and also leveraging pre-silicon validation, to uncover corner-case hardware bugs by running complex workloads, exercising features, and powering down blocks. Apple is hiring at junior through senior levels. The role involves developing and maintaining the system-level software platform, creating directed and random SoC and CPU tests, and debugging pre-silicon and post-silicon issues. The engineer also leads software development and execution plans for SoC projects and collaborates with designers, architects, and other Apple teams to meet validation goals and develop strategies based on product needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science.
  • 10 years of experience.
  • Embedded programming experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of SoCs and CPUs, including micro-architecture, memory hierarchy, interrupts and DMA, clock and power gating, and system-level concepts.
  • Experience with SoC bring-up.
  • C/C++ and assembly language programming.
  • Knowledge of hardware and software debugging tools and methods.
  • Experience with oscilloscopes.

Responsibilities

  • Write directed and random tests for SoCs and CPUs.
  • Debug pre-silicon and post-silicon issues.
  • Develop and maintain the system-level software platform.
  • Lead software development and execution plans for SoC projects.
  • Work with designers and architects to accomplish validation goals.
  • Engage with other Apple teams to develop validation strategies based on product needs.
