About The Position

Formlabs’ Software team develops a developer-friendly platform for programmatic access to PreForm and Formlabs printers. The team builds APIs, SDKs, and automation tools that help customers and partners integrate applications and workflows with the Formlabs ecosystem across desktop applications, embedded devices, networking, and cloud services.

As a Software Engineer on the API & Automation team, you will build software that connects developers to physical manufacturing systems. The role is open to engineers at all experience levels and focuses on creating reliable, usable software and solving complex problems across systems. Previous 3D printing experience is not required.

Requirements

• Experience building APIs, SDKs, or other developer-facing software.
• A strong foundation in software architecture, data structures, object-oriented software design, and cloud services.
• Enjoy working on ambiguous and technically challenging problems that span multiple systems.
• Comfort working across system boundaries and debugging complex interactions between software components.
• Interest in the interaction between software and physical devices.
• A user-focused approach and motivation to build software that makes a real difference for its users.
• Ability to take ownership, act with a bias toward action, make decisions, and move work forward.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with engineers and technical teams across disciplines.

Nice To Haves

• Experience designing or working with APIs using REST, gRPC, OpenAPI, or AsyncAPI.
• Experience with messaging systems such as NATS or MQTT.
• Experience writing C++ code, through academic or personal projects or production software.
• Experience with MES or industrial automation.
• Experience with DevOps, CI/CD, or cloud infrastructure.
• Experience with embedded systems or networking.
• Experience building AI-powered applications.
• Experience with 3D graphics, computational geometry, robotics, or simulation.

Responsibilities

• Design and build production APIs and SDKs for interacting with Formlabs software, printers, and manufacturing workflows.
• Build reliable automation systems that let customers integrate print preparation and Formlabs printers into their software and workflows.
• Deliver customer value by building and evolving reliable, easy-to-use APIs.
• Work with Product Management teams and external developers to solve complex problems and shape long-term technical direction.
