About The Position

Erias Ventures is seeking a Software Engineer to design, develop, and implement complex software capabilities for computer-based systems. The engineer will collaborate with other engineers to deliver software solutions for clients, work with modern tools and technologies, and keep current with developments in the field. The role is in a fast-paced small-business environment and allows partial telework, with an average of 1–2 days per week at the Columbia, Maryland office. Schedule flexibility is needed to accommodate changes. The employee must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Security Clearance; clearance is not required on the first day. U.S. citizenship is required. The expected salary range is $150,000–$275,000, depending on education and years of experience.

Requirements

Strong working knowledge and experience developing Java-based software capabilities.
Five or more years of Software Engineering experience with modern Java frameworks and libraries such as Spring or Guava, with a bachelor's degree in a related field; or three years of relevant experience with a master's degree in a related field; or a high school diploma or equivalent and nine years of relevant experience.
Experience designing enterprise APIs.
Experience with RESTful web services.
Experience with microservices architecture.
Experience with object-oriented programming paradigms.
Experience with the agile software lifecycle.
Experience with the Linux operating system.
Experience with configuration management tools such as Git, Nexus, and Maven.
Must be able to work in a hybrid environment, averaging 1–2 days per week at the Columbia, Maryland office, and adapt to schedule changes as needed.
Must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Security Clearance; the clearance is not required on day one.
Inquisitive nature, responsiveness, and excellent testing skills.
Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to work under pressure with multiple deadlines.
Ability to learn quickly and work both independently and as part of a team.

Nice To Haves

Proven use of AI coding tools such as Claude Code or Google's Gemini in daily engineering workflows.
Experience using autonomous agents for multi-file feature implementation, refactoring, and automated testing.
Experience with cloud technologies such as AWS or Azure.
Experience with distributed databases, NoSQL databases, or full-text search engines such as Elasticsearch, MongoDB, or Solr.
Scripting experience.
Prior experience or familiarity with data lakes or data warehouses.
Understanding of Agile software development methodologies and standard software development tool suites such as JIRA, Confluence, or GitHub Enterprise.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, and implement complex software capabilities for computer-based systems.
Collaborate with engineers to create software solutions that meet client needs.
Use AI coding agents in engineering workflows, including multi-file implementations, codebase refactoring, and automated test generation, where applicable.
Guide AI agents through complex, multi-repository architectures and critically review generated code for security, performance, and architectural alignment.
Keep up-to-date with emerging software development trends and technologies.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
