About The Position

As a Distinguished Software Engineer at Walmart, you will lead the design and development of scalable, cloud-native AI-powered systems, ensuring architectural integrity and operational excellence. You will translate strategic objectives into system-level implementations, drive continuous improvement, and foster a culture of technical excellence through mentorship and collaboration. This role demands strong technical judgment, ownership of the full software lifecycle, and the ability to optimize system performance while aligning with enterprise standards. Your leadership will be pivotal in advancing innovative solutions that enhance customer experiences and support Walmart’s business goals. The Marketplace Tech team develops a dynamic platform connecting customers with third-party sellers by transforming complex data into actionable insights and production-ready models. The team collaborates closely with product, engineering, and business units to enhance seller success, customer experience, trust, safety, and growth. Members define success metrics, conduct experiments, and build predictive and causal solutions that deliver measurable impact. Leveraging expertise in data science, machine learning, Python, and data visualization, the team addresses complex challenges with a focus on technical excellence, innovation, and clear communication to achieve strategic objectives.

Requirements

Option 1: Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 6 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
Option 2: 8 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

Master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 4 years' experience in software engineering or related area
Creating inclusive digital experiences, demonstrating knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.
Knowledge of accessibility best practices and joining us as we continue to create accessible products and services following Walmart’s accessibility standards and guidelines for supporting an inclusive culture.

Responsibilities

Lead the design and development of scalable, cloud-native AI-powered software systems and intelligent automation solutions.
Translate domain-level strategies into system-level implementations, ensuring architectural integrity and operational excellence.
Champion DevOps and CI/CD practices to maintain resilient, observable, and performant services with robust monitoring and alerting.
Provide technical guidance through code reviews, architectural decisions, and incident analysis to enhance quality and reliability.
Mentor engineers across teams, fostering continuous learning and high standards in design and delivery.
Identify and resolve architectural bottlenecks, driving automation and improving engineering velocity.
Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to align technical solutions with business objectives.
