About The Position

Distinguished Engineer is one of the most coveted technical IC titles at Walmart - and this role lives up to it. As a Distinguished Engineer on the Marketplace team within Growth Tech, you will be developing services that helps millions of sellers to onboard and do business with Walmart. You will write code, design systems, review architectures, and solve the problems that are complex. Your world-class expertise in distributed systems, API design, and platform engineering will be paired with a Al-forward mindset. About the team: The Marketplace team within Growth Tech drives critical services enabling millions of sellers to onboard and conduct business with Walmart. The Seller Onboarding and Item Setup team is essential to the Marketplace ecosystem, responsible for designing and scaling the global platform that supports the complete seller entry to Walmart marketplace journey. The team develops robust automated onboarding workflows, item setup and complex multi-platform integrations connecting cloud microservices, seller portals, and AI-driven analytics. You will own Architecture, design, development and delivery of Seller On-boarding journey, addressing distributed systems challenges, optimize APIs, and establish architectural standards to enable international marketplace growth.

Requirements

Demonstrated hands-on coding expertise with strong current coding practice, and the ability and willingness to own deep, end-to-end implementation, from detailed design and production code through automated quality, production deployment.
Extensive experience leading the design and development of scalable, cloud-native software systems and AI-powered solutions.
Strong expertise in operational excellence, including DevOps, CI/CD, observability, and incident management.
Demonstrated skill in driving continuous improvement by identifying bottlenecks and automating manual processes.
Exceptional problem-solving and debugging capabilities with a focus on platform design and development.
Effective collaboration and mentorship skills to foster engineering excellence across teams.
Sound technical judgment with adaptability to evolving technologies and business needs.
Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 6 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
8 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

Nice To Haves

Master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 4 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
Creating inclusive digital experiences, demonstrating knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.

Responsibilities

Write production-grade code and not prototypes or proof-of-concepts, test and deploy them to production.
Lead end-to-end technical design for complex initiatives involving from API contracts, UI interfaces and data models to distributed system topologies and cross-cutting concerns.
Lead design and development of scalable, cloud-native AI-powered software systems and intelligent automation solutions.
Drive operational excellence through technical guidance, code reviews, and strategic architectural decisions.
Champion DevOps CI/CD practices to ensure resilient, observable, performant services.
Mentor engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, continuous learning.
Identify and resolve architectural bottlenecks, automate manual processes, and improve developer experience.
Collaborate across teams to align technical solutions with business objectives and customer needs.
